This is a great place to go for authentic Austrian cuisine. The price is reasonable too. You should make a reservation or arrive for an early dinner if you do not want to wait.

This out-of-the-way restaurant was a recommendation by the Concierge at the Intercontinental. Off a small side street (though there are lots of them in the Old City.) Great atmosphere. Lots of choices for both local food and beer -- what could be better? Good value.

After an incredibly long day in the airport, this was a wonderful surprise once we were settled in our hotel. The atmosphere was very traditional, dark, animated and comfortable. Our server was great. He offered help in ordering, though the menu is also in English. The carpaccio was excellent as was the Old Viennese soup. Everything with spätzle was perfect as was the Zwiebelrostbraten. The desserts were great too, though after these meals, it is better to get one a share with the whole table as you'll see from the photos.

We went on a Thursday night around 8.30pm and they only had places available in the smoking area. If you are not a smoker, I would recommend prior reservation, they speak enough English so dont be afraid to call. We had 2 main courses, the Pork Schniztel and the Mastochsenbraten (Panfried slice of Beef stuffed with ham and Camembert cheese), Apfelstrudel for desert and 2 large beers for a total of 32€. For the size of the portions and the quality of the food it is worth every penny. The place is 'country austrian' decorated, rather different than the other places. Service was a little slow and they were not fully booked so I imagine that going there in a rush is not an option. Our waiter was very friendly and apologised for the 10min wait to order the food.We will definately reserve a table next time we go there.

After reading reviews and being let down by another restaurant. We used reviews to find Purstner.
Wine was excellent, staff really helpful and food as reviewed by other people was really filling( we both could not finish mains, still had puddings though).
Maybe skip starters even though they sound good.
Decor is a bit wild as is waiters uniforms, a bit touristy but we are tourists.
If you like excellent food but don't mind a big restaurant feel, go for it. Was quite expensive as we finished with schnapps but didn't break the bank.
