We have been performing at the Konzerthaus in Vienna for decades now. All that time, I never realized that just behind that facility was Gmoakeller. I went to a dinner organized by a group I work with here and was very happy to discover that this establishment is a cut above most of this style. I had took advantage of spargelfest and great plate of those wonderful white stalks. Everybody's dishes - from fresh pike to schnitzel to tafelspitz - looked delicious. There were a number of beers on tap and a decent selection of wines. The prices were reasonable and the service very fast and efficient. It goes on the list of repeat visits for the future.

A Viennese acquaintance recommended this restaurant, located not far from the Opera House. It was crowded, but despite having no reservation, the maitre d seated us. This is not elegant dining but it is terrific. In fact, the best meal we had in our 3 week trip through central Europe. Try the boiled beef, which sounds awful, but which our Viennese friend recommended. It was wonderful, and because it was so tender, you can literally cut it with a fork. Not expensive either, and filled with locals, not tourists. If you like white glove service, this is not the place for you. If you like first rate food, don't miss it.

Found this place through TripAdvisor when looking for a place to eat in the neighbourhood. Some basic German is handy to read the menu (as pointed out previously, the English section i s shorter), but the service is friendly and helpful, though with some reserve. The interior has a very authentic local feel, and it seems that the management isn't really going after the tourists - which is great if you want to experience the real Vienna. The food was great (best Schnitzel and goulash we had), and although not really cheap, the quality-price ratio is more than reasonable (still better than most tourist oriented places in the city centre). Worth a recommendation!

We went to this place based on the reviews, and were extremely disppointed. Overpriced restaurant with an average food and not so great beer. Get a reservation if you do decided to go here. THe food was ok, but really average. We enjoyed the sirring outside, as weather was super nice that weekend. I wouldn't recommend this place, but if you are in the neighborhood and hungry, it will do.
