After being on the road for two weeks, I was longing for some Japanese home cooking and I found it here. The place is tiny with just a few tables and chairs outdoors and indoor seating at two narrow counters. The menu features udon, sushi, and some of my favorites such as takoyaki and hijiki. I was not disappointed and found it with little trouble near the Nasch Market.

Definitely the very best spot for japanese homemade food. the food and especially the soups are delicious and the hosts are more than welcoming. the place is tiny but you can also take away everything. a reservation might be helpful. prices are moderate given the perfect service and quality. highly recommended!

Kuishimbo is a genuine, extremely small, family managed, mystical jewel from Japan directly into the mid-European lands. And, as far as I am concerned, one good reason to go to Vienna.

Open from lunch to (early) dinner (with no break), located in a beautiful palace next to Naschmarkt, this small restaurant can only accommodate 8 persons in winter, four per each of the two bars along the walls; in summer and on sunny days, three small tables on the sidewalk double the capacity. Booking is recommended.

So, about the food. They serve maki sushi, ways the best I've ever had in Europe. But it would be a shame to stick (only) to sushi. The menu on the wall offers a variety of special dishes, from starters to dessert, that will delight the most exigent customer, without destroying your savings. Noodles are magical; tofu recipes are so good you wouldn't believe it's tofu; the sashimi come with servings that will challenge your ability to understand what you're eating; a vaste choice of snacks and salades go from fried octopus to marinated pumpkin; grilled fish is tasty and juicy; for less trained customers, curries and teriyaki are also available.
The common point is quality at his top. Delicious food, elegant presentation, smiling service, all you expect from a real, authentic, genuine japanese restaurant.

Do not miss it!

This tiny restaurant serves the best japanese food. I LOVE their udon, maki, ...
My guess it's very typical japanese non-fancy food. The restaurant is very small but you can reserve a table (which is actually part of a long bar table). They do take-out too.

This might be one of the smallest restaurants in Vienna. The family managed restaurant offers unpretentious Japanese basic cuisine. Extremely friendly and fast service. (Maybe time is coming for a little deco refreshing)
