This is an iconic Vienna eatery with a special atmosphere and setting. Excellent food and good service makes this a restaurant well worth the visit. Not hugely expensive and good value. We really enjoyed it!

I highly recommend. The Black Camel’s origins (not the current building) go back to 1618 when Johann Baptist Cameel opened up a delicatessen and wine shop. The restaurant, bistro, bar and outside tables are very popular with locals. We asked our concierge to make a reservation a couple of months in advance as we wanted a quiet table in the rear restaurant. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout (apart from the glum waiter / maitre’d in the red jacket). We loved the quirky old world décor. The menu is traditional Austrian with some complex and creative twists. I ordered the yellow tomato and red pepper gazpacho, followed by the veal chop with truffle polenta and stuffed courgette. My husband opted for the consommé with dumplings, then the turbot with mussels and fennel. We really enjoyed our starters, but both our mains were divine. Thankfully, the portion sizes weren’t too big and we managed to share a portion of the apricot pancakes which were so light and delicious. Excellent wine suggestion. A really lovely experience.

Had coffee and cake here as one must when in Vienna. Outside seating a bit hard to get and cramped but a great spot to watch the passing parade. Wait staff efficient if not that friendly but that does not bother me. Cake was nice and I lingered over my coffee. Full meals available as well. More seating available at the back of the restaurant facing another street.

We visited it for dinner, the restaurant is in the very center of Vienna. The kitchen is very good, with both traditional and modern dishes.
Service is good.

Had a nice table on the sidewalk; food was good (we had better at other places during our stay) but we had a good time watching people pass (there was a Vienna Fashion Show that evening). Tried the Schnitzel meatballs... a bit disappointed. Others in our family liked their dishes. It was more of an experience than a great meal.
