We when there with three couples for a birthday celebration and ordered a big variety of different courses and wines. Overall, our experience was simply outstanding. The food was simply beyond that what I regard as normal - this is truly an excellent place. In addition to that, the person recommending the wines was fantastic. The wines greatly fit the food and it was a great experience to realize all the different nuances in the wine. The cheese was unbelievable. The only thing that I think could be improved is how some of the waiters arrange the silverware. It from time to time appeared that fewer but better trained people would be better. Nonetheless, if you want to experience a wonderful dinner, go there.

Just the walk to get to this restaurant is pleasurable. Being received on the top floor and taken by elevator to the lower level for dining was a bit different, until you entered the room and saw an amazing view if Vienna. The summer gardens must be amazing.
I wanted to try weiner schnitzel and was so pleased. It is good for the soul to take a two hour lunch and enjoy the chef's creations, as they are just that. The presentation of each course is artful.
Enjoy everyone!

Steirereck is a must eat restaurant in Vienna. Both for the marvelous food but also for the entire setup where many small details combined makes it great experience. You are met by the host and led to the elevator and taken down to the restaurant floor where your host meet you agian and led you to your table and of course theres a little stool for the lady's purse. A very nice aperitif (they know their wine) and the menu is presented by the waiter. We decided to try different dishes from the menu to see the variety. And the butter came to the table - three different kinds - arranged in a neat manner and then the breadwagon came by and I think there was around 16 different kinds of bread to choose from - and tasty. And then came the surprise dishes - not on the menu - three small dishes very exciting and taste. The waiters then served and each dish was presented with a little card you take home afterwards. Appetizers very nice, but the main course was a bit on the ordinary side. I had chosen goose and being from Denmark it was like getting the Christmas food I get every year. A bit on the fat side and ... ordinary. My wife had the liver and she also find it on the ordinary side. Dessert was good though :-)
The average main course and the fact that the bill was presented in a paperfolder with a pen from the local taxi company (on a Michelin 2 star restaurant) makes it impossible to give 5 stars.

The restaurant was sold out for dinner so we went for lunch. The experience starts from the moment you are escorted to your seat. The chairs are comfortable and you can sit forever. We took a 4 chorus menu. Everything we had was delicious and served beautifully. Their wine menu is enormous but quite expansive. We had wine by the glass which was reasonably priced. It was romantic although it was lunch. Highly recommended.

On our rent trip to Vienna, my husband and I book a dinner at Steirereck. Our hobby is trying to see how many S. Pellegrino restaurants in the top 100 we can experience. In the past 2 years, we have been fortunate to able be to experience - #1 El Celler de Can Roca, #4 Murgaritz, #5 Eleven Madison Park, #9 Steirereck, #15 Alinea, #17 L'Arpege, #25 L'Atelier Saint Germain de Joel Robuchon, #29 Daniel, #44 Asador Etxebarri, #47 French Laundry, #58 Coi, #77 Tickets, $79 Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athenee, #93 Momofuku Ko.

The location is in the middle of a very large park, so allow enough time to find the restaurant. The other issues we had was that they allow people to smoke while dining. We were sitting on the terrace. The people at the table next to us, lit up after every single course, the smoke drifted our way. When being seated I would mention that you would like to be away from any smokers.

I would not rank I would not rank Steirereck #9. While they did have some imaginative courses, it wasn't as imaginative at Alinea. The taste of the food wasn't as good as Asador Etxebarri, and the service was very stiff and condescending. If you are chasing the list, it is a must go to, but if you are not then save your money and go elsewhere. Also be sure to go to the bathroom while you are there, see pictures.
