Just Vienna has so many nicely hidden delights, so to this restaurant, nestled in the depths of the Stadtpark, offers a really excellent lunch menu at a moderate price considering its 2 start Michelin rating. It is doubtless one of the top restaurants in the world. The char is not to be missed. It is cooked in front of you as the waiter pours moulton bees wax over fish in a wooden mold. When the histrionics are complete and you finally get to eat it, it is a unique delight of flavors that combine to make an unimaginable dish. Beware of the bread cart. Bread is collected from 7 bakeries in the Vienna area and each one is of about a dozen types is unique. Try to stay on the food and don't be goaded to bread. The next pleasant surprise to be aware of is the choice of great Austrian white wines. Just let them choose for you. Don't mist the Jamek Muscat. Should go back to try more of the desserts. One day.

We asked our concierge to recommend us to the Best Place in Town for an extra-special celebratory dinner. Steirereck certainly provided that. An extremely slick operation, tasteful in every way, with outstanding decor both in the restaurant and, particularly, in the washrooms! If you're looking for that extra special meal, served to the highest standards, then this is the place - but be prepared to pay for it! A great place to see and be seen! Exclusive without being stuffy.

A chef friend of mine told me that steirereck is really over rated and bland, and has no business being rated 11th in the world. We didn't take his word on it and tried it out ourselves.

Well I am completely confused why it is rated so well on yelp and trip advisors, why it has 2 stars and why it appears in the top 100.

We took the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing and the water snuck in sparkling wines at the beginning as sell. It cost 717$ at the end.

So the food was not particularly creative, and seemed bland. Nothing blew anyone's mind, no creative presentation, nothing. The bread cart and cheese cart were the best courses sadly. Nothing tasting awful admittedly, but only 2 things tastes great. Is that really acceptable at a 2 star?

We ate at a 1 star (Terazza del casino) in Madrid last year and it cost me 515$, but was so much more creative and exciting. We got 18-20 courses and we left very happy. There were both satisfying presentations and creative flavores. Really unique stuff.

Didn't feel like that at steirereck. It seemed like I could find equivalent stuff at a non-starred restaurant.

I have no clue why people are impressed and my chef friend was absolutely right.

Also our waiter's English wasn't really good, which Is fine when you are not claiming stars, 11th best, and 700$ price.

Killer desserts - Peach Melba! Cheese menu was amazing as well and we had good wine. They were fretting a bit about the kitchen closing, but were able to serve us in time. Fancy waitering, but not flawless.

I tried to book there few time, and apparently you need to book long ahead.
Until I understood it was better to just drop in, as for the menu, it is nice but could do better.
The fish is excellent but the rest so so, the price reasonable
