This is the first and last Meinl store left. In my childhood it was a delicatessen chain, spread throughout Vienna and some main cities of Austria.
When it comes to delicacies this is it and always will be you get top quality and excellent service. I highly recumbent them.
Last time I was there at Christmas/New Year 2011/2012, visiting home and family.

We love pretty things, and we love good food, but when the chef is spending the vast majority of his time playing paint by numbers rather than worrying about the taste of the food, you don't have a great combination. We just returned from dinner at this restaurant and it was quite simply really odd. We selected a three course set menu, and virtually nothing was recognizable. With apparently a great deal of effort, this chef was able to use pumpkin in at least 20 different ways on these three beautifully decorated little plates. Each course used at least 10 different ingredients in strangely arranged sort of paintings on each plate. Seriously… our venison was made to look like slices of watermelon. That alone should tell you all you need to know. Cute, cute, and cuter… It just kept coming. The place itself is lovely, and the service excellent. The food is just really really odd. We literally could not recognize almost any of the food on our plate. We couldn't even list a food group let alone a specific ingredient for much of it. And unfortunately, the lovely food bizarre that is part of this place closed two minutes after we arrived so we couldn't even shop there. Not our best dining out experience.

Excellent food, a great wine list (including several vintages of Penfolds Grange Shiraz), wonderful staff, and a charming view. My partner and I were delighted in every way. Expensive, but the value is there.

This restaurant was first class. We went as a birthday treat so we were expecting to pay a little more for something special and this was the case. The staff, service, view of Grabenstrasse and delicious food made our last night inVienna a real treat. The quality of ingredients and plating up made each dish special. We were given a number of complimentary dishes. We will be back!

This isn't only a restaurant, but a very upscale supermarket (2 levels) with various prepared foods that are outstanding You can bring them back to your hotel or apartment. We did that with several seafood and vegetable salads that were outstanding. It's not cheap, but it's not terribly expensive. Back home in the San Francisco area, there is an upscale market that offers similar things called the Pasta Shop, and their prepared food isn't bad. This was infinitely better for about the same price in dollars.
