Great place. Superb ambiance, highest quality of fresh fish and ingredients. Good service, however for people less self-assured, it may feel arrogant as the staff does not provide US-type submissive service to everybody.

We had no problem, service, drink refills etc just worked like a charm. Prices in VIE really on the high side, however you get the quality for it. You are treated regally if you behave (or are) like a king.

Also this place (finally) put smokers where they belong, in the basement, avoid this scetion at all cost (walk out if nothing else is avail), you´ll get a glimpse if you just walk by for the restroom. For real excellence the Kornat should finally eliminate all smoking and put smokers where they are around the world in every other country: Outdoors.

Kornat is a smart and stylish seafood restaurant near the main drinking area of Vienna. We had spied it as we wandered during the day and were drawn in by the Dalmatian cuisine as we had never really tried this before. We booked through our hotel and secured a late table for the same evening.

Everything started off well - we were quickly shown to our table and given the menus. Our waiter politely and expertly challenged my wine selection and helped us pick an exquisite Croatian wine from the extensive selection and it worked perfectly.

Seafood is the name of the game here and it certainly cannot be faulted for fresh fish. Both starters were served quickly and were tasty.and mains were just top notch and a real treat for lovers of seafood.

Sadly, once the main was on the table, things went wrong. I'm not one to complain about a waiter not coming back after five minutes to ask if everything is OK - to be honest I tend to find it a little annoying. However, at Kornat - we didn't see our waiter again at all after the main had been served!

Our white wine was sat in an ice bucket away from the table so I had to get up out of my seat to go and get it. We were sorely tempted by dessert and another bottle of wine but...nobody came to offer us anything... In the end I had to do my best irate punter wave to get someone to come and give us the bill. I find it incredible that restaurants do not attempt to sell more food and wine to customers - perhaps they thought we didn't look as if we had the money!

In the final analysis, there is an unpleasant arrogance around Kornat. Clearly it is fashionable and popular place to be seen. But this seems to breed an arrogance around the staff and venue which is actually quite offputting. In the end I was glad to leave, in spite of having had a great meal.

Fish lovers should not be put off, but beware - this place is decidedly up itself.

There were three of us, avid eaters and wine drinkers. The staff recommended an amazing Croatian red wine...so good we took pictures in hopes of purchasing some in the states. The food was very very good.....albeit the only issue was that we seemed to get things we didn't order and things were replaced without our knowledge, and yet, everything we ate was delicious and not a drop was left in the end. The staff was super fun to chat with and told us all about the area and the history of the restaurant. I hope to visit again.

We were invited and made a reservation with a group of people, ordering the menu several days in advance.
We - all non smokers - were placed in the cellar - the smoking area - and not moved elsewhere, in spite of asking the waiter at the entrance to do so (his answer was: first I have to talk to the owner. We never heard anything again).
Not wanting to spoil the atmosphere, we stayed in the cellar. We sat. And sat. And sat. And sat... We ate all the bread and all the olives and sat some more... 90 (yes, ninety!!!) minutes later our food arrived. We ate it. No one came to ask if we wanted something else.
We asked about the (pre ordered) desert twice in a span of another 60 minutes after we finished the fish, and the answers were - yes it is coming.
When it came, it was not exactly what we expected, but still tasty. We ate it, paid and left firmly determined not to return ever again.
We would never have stayed beyond the bread and olives if it were not for the respect for the friend who organized the gathering. And now we know that we will never return again to the place where guests are treated like this. Oh, and to tell the story completely - we were not charged for the desert. Honestly, instead we would have preferred a different treatment than the one we were given.

The restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel, and a good recommendation it was. The food was good. The ambiance was nice. The service was excellent. At the end one must pay, and pay we did! The price for our dish was not on the menu, and all side dishes were at extra cost. Let's say that the prices made you feel that you want to give the food back. So be ware! The food is good but the prices aren't.
