No visit to Vienna would be complete without multiple trips to Cafe Demel. It is fun to see them making pastries in the back corner of the first floor--behind a wall of glass. There are delightful little sandwiches for lunch; Cafe Anna is a delicious coffee drink with liqueur; and the pastry selection is enormous. There is something for everyone--whether you like your pastry creamy and sweet or resplendent with chocolate, or dense and less sweet with no frosting. We sometimes buy a demeltorte from their online store for a special birthday---it's shipped quickly and stays fresh for several days after delivery. The box is comes in is a keepsake.

“SACHER Torte is without doubt a Demel´s creation”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We learnt about the story of the Sacher Cake origin discrepancies in Vienna; a friend told us that Sacher Cafe and Demel Cafe were discussing since ages for the receipt entitlemnet of the so well know Sacher Torte. We can tel, the best one is the one from Demel. The difference is extreme, you will taste the marmelade is on top in the case of Demel and it´s texture very smooth. Give it a try and decide yourself. In addition, the cafe itself is a very nice one with a vienna style which is a must to visit.

“Amazing Hot Chocolate”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

I found this famous bakery to be very entertaining. The wait staff was very friendly and cares about the customers. Our waitress even asked us to hide our purses to warn us. Our seat was able to view the bakers create the cakes from the window. Pretty interesting to observe while enjoying my hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was "PERFECT" and the cakes/pastries were delicious. The chocolate torte is famous but I am not a fan because I don't really like think chocolate cake. Other than that there are lots of chocolate gifts to buy (Just a bit pricey)

“Delightful Demel”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Wonderful fin de siècle decor in the old fashioned rooms.

I had breakfast, so didn't sample the famous chocolate - though bought some to take home.

You can see the chocolate being made and get a real sense of the tradition and history.
