Reviewed September 13, 2012

As much as I'd like to say that DO & CO exceeded my expectations or that it lived up to the pictures here on Tripadvisor...well, I can't. It's certainly a very good hotel, there were just some shortcomings that I couldn't get past, but a great deal more that I really enjoyed.

The location is as perfect as it gets in Vienna. The hotel is located smack dab in the heart of Vienna's bustling city centre, practically two steps away from St. Stephen's Cathedral and the major shopping streets of Karntnerstrasse and Kohlmarkt. The entire plaza is pedestrians only after 10am, so it's practically like a playground at your disposal—you can literally blaze a path of retail destruction right from the doorstep of the hotel all the way down to the edge of the Ring, and then get a wonderful eyeful of some of the sights that Vienna has to offer as you make your way back up to the hotel.

The room itself was great for the most part—the bathroom was spacious and pristine, a huge shower and decent closet space. My main complaint here was that the sheets gave off this queer detergent smell...they were clean, but they smelled like a sickening mixture of milk and perfume. I couldn't get past the smell, and that made going to bed every night a bit of a dreaded occasion. That aside, the rooms were fine, and the management was fine as well, though like others have said, the fact that the front desk shares a space with a restaurant that allows smoking is a bit problematic. Also, there is no real front entrance to the hotel; you have to enter through a door opposite the cathedral and go up to the sixth floor of the building to get to the front desk.

But the breakfast! The breakfast was probably the greatest part of DO & CO aside from its location. It's located up in the seventh floor, and there's a balcony with lots of seating so you can sit high above Vienna while eating and gaze down at the minuscule figures below or at glorious St. Stephen's right across from you. And the food was great too; buffet-style with delicious croissants and omelettes and yogurts and fruits and a lot more.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for the best location and pretty great facilities, but would advise caution on smelling the bedsheets on account of that weird scent they have...

Thanks so much for having chosen the DO & CO Hotel Vienna during your last stay in our beautiful city. We feel very happy that you have enjoyed your stay, specially in terms of location, rooms and breakfast.

We have arranged the lobby area on 6th floor to seperate our hotel guests from the croud on St. Stephens Square. This is pretty unusual and due to that some times confusing.

Regarding the smell of our bedsheets we have immediately talked to our laundry provider. Honestly we had this complaint never with in 6 years. Nevertheless we take your comment very serious and will take care that our laundry provider will be even more careful.

We hope that you will consider the DO & CO Hotel Vienna in the future again! Please feel free contacting me personally, so I can take care on all your desires.

Thanks and best regards from Vienna

Great Hotel within 25 yards with fantastic view of Stephandome.
What a Ride.
Service Front Desk Fantastic, dinner revs and museums
Hotel Bar and outdoor cafe ugh....like being in a subway, elbow to elbow
Hotel Restaurant top of the coaster
Rooms exhilirating
Elevators bad karma, reception and bar on 6, rooms below it, like spinning in a loop..
Health club affiliation terrific, but a mile walk.
Attitude of bar staff, "Claude's Your Welcome" from Date Night.

As you mentioned, the ONYX Bar is pretty well known at the locals. But this makes it also even more attractive for our hotel guests, as you feel like a Viennese in the middle of the crowd.

this is a must stay hotel-the location itself is incredible opening on to the ST.Stephen's Catherdral and its attraction is in the way the hotel is run.a 7th floor restaurant overlooks the square itself, morning breakfast is simple but infused with quality.rooms are homely with big expansive bathrooms and staff are well placed to help in any instance.would recommend it to both the business traveler or one who is on holiday.

Room Tip: rooms facing the inner garden is quieter

This place is a perfect place to stay, my partner and I hated to leave it. It is so central to the main action of Vienna and the underground station is located 15m from the door. We loved waking up in the morning and looking out the window onto the main street. Very close to all the major sites - we walked to most areas. If you are wanting that extra experience try booking a private guide through the desk - we had Georg who was wonderful - showed us many non tourist areas right under our noses that most would walk past. The only negative was the $29 Euro (pp) for breakfast - my tip go downstairs to the Europe cafe for a wonderful $7 Euro Viennese breakfast that does the trick. If you have a bit more time, book dinner on the roof top, a bit pricey but the views are amazing - thanks Do & Co - we'll be back.

Thanks for taking time and for sharing your experiences at the DO & CO Hotel Vienna.

We are very happy that you've enjoyed your stay with us. George is really a fantastic tour guide and we receive overall absolutely positive feedback regarding his perfomances.

Our buffet breakfast costs 29 EUR and is really very rich and you have the opportunity starting your day at our roof top terrace. In your room there was a "Early Bird Breakfast Bag" which costs 9 EUR only. With this one you have a smaller breakfast for take away.

I hope you will consider the DO & CO Hotel Vienna in the future again, and please feel free contacting me personally at any time.

We stayed for 4 nights at city view room..Location is best but room is small and poor at water area.
We did not stayed comfortable.Staff and service were so business like and didnot have warmth .
We viewed plaza and temple with small window with our search, it was not enough.
Totally we spent 4 days without any problem and any enjoyment.
Next time we try to choose more tasteful hotel.

Thank you very much for your review.

It seems that we were not able to fulfill all your expectations. Our rooms have a minimum size of 32 sqm and are the largest guest rooms in the Viennese 5 star category. Nevertheless you may have contacted our staff so we could have had the chance to upgrade you on a Junior Suite level upon availability. As our hotel is fully made of glass I'm wondering that our windows are too small.

I hope you will consider the DO & CO Hotel Vienna in the future again. Please feel free contacting me personally at any time and I'll take care on your reservations.

With best regards

This hotel is so central in Vienna that the most sights and museums are close enough by foot.
It is in a pedestrian street with too many shops and too many tourists. The room was excellent and very beautiful and the view just great. The most important was the great soundproof from the noise outside.
Service was ok and so was the stuff.
Two disadvantages, that there wasn' t any lobby and that the price was too high.

The photos on the website made it for us! We booked one of the funky modern rooms with the fully glazed bathroom- because seriously if you don't like what you see in the shower- then maybe you are with the wrong person... The room was large and almost as new lets just say sensational. We were fortunate enough to get one with an opening window ( not all rooms had opening windows) and we had a direct view across the square to the cathedral. The staff was very good, and the room was one of the best we stayed in whilst in Europe. We would definitely stay here again.
