I'm not sure that everyone would enjoy the crypt... I did, however. Being a history buff - I enjoyed seeing the names of people I've read and studied.... a great many of the great players on the Habsburg stage are entombed here..
The elaborate (and huge) tomb of Maria Theresa compared to the plain simple box of the Empress Zita...
Definitely worth a stop for the history buff... not much in English, so if you don't know the people - it might not make much sense... and there is no audio tour.

The Imperial Crypt is located beneath the Capuchin Church and is intended for members of Austria’s former Habsburg dynasty. 149 Habsburgs, including 12 emperors as well as 19 empresses and queens, have their final resting place here. Burials take place in the Imperial Crypt to this day - on 16 July 2011 the former Crown Prince and European politician, Otto Habsburg, was laid to rest here alongside his wife, Regina. If you are interested in the Habsburgs and their family history, you should not miss this place. The ticket costs 5,50 euro and you can take pictures. The place is opened from Mo to Su, 10:00 - 18:00.

At five and a half euros, you're unlikely to find a better value for seeing sculptural excellence and grace. Also known as the Kaisergruft, this tomb of the Hapsburg kings and queens is a wonderful experience.

The final resting place of the royal Hapsburg family. This crypt is very well maintained and organized for there being 145 royal family members buried here. It's interesting to see the personality of each family member through the details put into their coffin. It would have been nice to have a list of the family members in chronological order to help give an idea of the line of succession. Overall, if you enjoy history, make sure to visit the Imperial Crypt (Kaisergruft).

JMJ If imperial history is your thing-come down to the crypts. It would help if you knew a few names of the wealthy family and emperors but just from view the caskets, you'll know who was the highest on the social ladder. Except for the simplicity of Emperor Franz Joseph. Compared to the MASSIVE double sarcophagus of Maria Theresia and Emperor, Franz Stephan, which is so beautiful..Interesting detail of how the crypts were filled and maintained and also if Skulls and Crossbones are considered new now, about every casket has very large representations of death. Beautiful in a religious and sacred way even thought slightly scarey! The Church is beautiful also so plan on spending some time to return to a different time and heavenly outlook.
