not only does Kahlenberg get you out into the countryside, it is VERY EASY by public transport to get there. open spaces, great restaurants ,INCREDIBLE view and now they have an AWESOME zip-line park that is like none I've been to before......take your time and stay there a while. Well worth the trip and a long days outing !!!!

“Fantastic views over Vienna”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

We reached Kahlenberg at the end of a day out in the Vienna Woods. We took the U-bahn to Heiligenstadt and from there got the 38A bus from just outside the station. We originally got off in Grinzing which is a lovely little village with lots of heurigen and restaurants. We ate in one (unfortunately cannot remember the name) which had a lovely garden with tables out the back. Roast suckling pig seems to be a speciality on a Sunday. Beware the local wine which comes in a half pint mug and can be a bit rough. You can also get as far as Grinzing from Vienna on one of the trams. After lunch we got back on another 38A bus (they are very frequent) and went to the last stop which was Kahlenberg. As it was Sunday it was very busy there but we managed to get an outside table for coffee and cake on the terrace of the restaurant which had fantastic views back down over Vienna. If you want to have a day out of the city I would definitely recommend a trip up here.

“Fresh air, scenic views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

While in Vienna, you have to see this. First you get with a tram to Grinzing, a lovely wine makers' village, and from there with a local bus to Kahlenberg. Don't forget your camera, and if you use a SLR, your best tele or zoom. Climbing up to the Stefanienwarte Observation tower is a must, too.
Preferably eat and enjoy drinks in Grinzing, but there are restaurants and cafes in Kahlenberg as well.

“The best views of Vienna from the woods to the valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

This was the highlight of our Vienna Woods tour. The views from the Stephanie Observatory were spectacular even on an overcast day. The visibility was pour on the day that we visited, so the pictures taken of the valley did not come out well. I was able to get pictures of the Kahlenberg Church, the old well, and the replica of the Bald Mountain Railway wagon that's directly in front of the observatory. It's well worth the trip up the mountain if you need a day away from the city. It's just a great place to walk around and soak in the beauty of nature. The Café-Restaurant Cobenzl is also situated near the square if you want a nice meal along with that beautiful view.
