Hostel Hutteldorf
Ranked #50 of 216 Specialty Lodging in Vienna
Reviewed July 5, 2012

After a stay in a crappy hostel in Venice, Hostel Hütteldorf in Vienna was practically luxurious. The staff were friendly and there is a pitcher of water at reception (really convenient when you've come back for the night after drinking). The rooms are big and come with a table and chairs, tall lockers, lots of shelves and cupboards around each bed, and even a little entrance closet where you can hang up your towels. If you're staying a bit longer you could probably unpack your entire bag into all the storage they have. The beds were a bit small but you could still get a good night's sleep in them.

There is a big cafeteria with free breakfast, which was actually quite tasty - fruit, yogurt, cereal, different breads with jam and hazelnut spread. Bathrooms are clean unless the guests get everything wet, which was the case while we were there. At night the windows were open so the lights attracted bugs, so when the counters were covered in water the bugs would get trapped which was pretty disgusting. There are three showers per 5- or 6-room floor, which was enough except for when a school group occupied all 18 showers at once before their trip home. The showers are a decent size, with a bench to keep your clothes and towels separated from the shower itself. The shower was strong enough although the angle made it a bit awkward to wash legs or feet.

The location is probably the biggest flaw with this hostel, as it's not close to the heart of the city. However, there's an underground station a few minutes away down a hill where you can get to touristy places fairly quickly. There are also night buses that stop a bit further away.

If you don't mind the trip to get into the city, I highly recommend it.

I found this hostel to be really cosy and comfortable. The amenities provided were amazing and everything was just perfect. If you are alone and looking for a comfortable stay in Vienna, this is the place to be.

situated in calm and quiet part of Vienna, still super reachable to metro station (3mins) and bus station in case of returning late at night. 15 mins to get to the city centre. which is perfectly fine. green lawns all around, suitable for summer sunbathing, short picknick before or after coming back from the city.
I loved the breakfast (seriously, who provides with Bed and Breakfast at this price? Don't know of any other hostel in Vienna), the cleanness of the rooms and the shared spaces.

polemics with other reviews:
Although it is true that bathrooms might be supplied with dryers and soaps (normally they probably are as there was a soap dispenser, yet empty) , it is not that big of a deal as some reviewers make of it. As for myself, I didn't even realize it, I kind of take my soap and towel with me when I travel and especially to a hostel. Do the same and you won't find yourself being disappointed (and wet and dirty :D).

- one and only reproach - showers for both men and ladies are not really comfortable as well as the relative uncleanness of the shower enclosures (there were some insects actually - improve that and it would be loveliest :))

all in all - regarding it is a hostel (youth) it suprised me in the best way and in every regard.
recommendation to families, groups of young people not being interested only in staying in crazy and noisy partying neighbourhood

The only good things I found was the comfortable bed with your own lamp to read at night without bothering the other people, and the cozy common room. Nothing else.
When we fiiiiinally arrived to the hostel after a long trip, dreaming with sleeping a little bit or just rest, we had to wait two hours to enter in our room. The showers didn't work well, there weren't hairdryers (which wasn't nice at all with that freezing weather outside), and the breakfast was really poor. The price more or less in the average in the city, but you also had to rent the towels.
If you don't mind to spend a couple of euros more, do it and go to another place.

It's a very nice hostel.
The people of reception are very very friendly, helpfull and don't have problems speaking english!
The breackfast is very very good =)
The showers and the bathrooms are not the bests.
The location is quite far from the city center but it is very well indicated and if you pay attention is not difficult to find it.
