A friend who visits Vienna annually recommended seeing the Hotel Stefanie as it is one of the oldest hotels in Vienna. It is located in the old Jewish Quarter of Vienna and an easy walk from the old town centre. We walked by the hotel and looked inside and the hotel exudes history and elegance. We noticed they had a Sunday buffet and the maitre d' was kind enough to get a table for two set up as the whole room was alrady booked. We had a glass of champagne and enjoyed the best buffet we had ever experienced. When you think of buffets the first thing that comes to kind is lots of salads, a few hot dish options, lots of cold appetizers and a tray of fruit with commercial sweets. This buffet was anything but that. As we had come later into the buffet they were out of smoked salmon and our maitre d' got me a side plate of salmon made especially for us. We had a great selection of hot traditional Austrian dishes, soups and desserts that including an outstanding strudel. On top of all that the cost of this buffet was about 60% of what you would pay in the old town centre of Vienna for an average meal. Great food at a great value.
