This is a difficult review for me to write. While the Kempinski is a beautiful, relatively new hotel, we have mixed feelings about our stay here.
First of all, know that it is very modern in feel and in decor. Lots of high-end electronics, including a thermostat on the tub and shower, if you're into that kind of thing. Nothing wrong with this, we just found it was not to our taste. Also, the rooms look inward toward a courtyard, rather than out at the city ~ again, a matter of taste.
Also, the lobby and other amenities feel very formal. We are used to staying at 5* hotels, but most do not feel so stiff.
As others have mentioned, the staff is unpolished, sometimes unprofessional, and when you are paying at the top end of the scale, you simply expect top notch service in all areas.
The location is quiet, which also means you are a short hike from the activities. This was not a problem for us, but you should take note.
All in all, if we return to Vienna we would choose to stay somewhere else.
