“Good Hotel; Not A Special Hotel”
Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

Good Points:
-Usually an offer can be found for this hotel; making it good value. At full price, it wouldn't be great value.
-Clean hotel, with nice, well-sized rooms and the bathroom shower 'problem' mentioned in other reviews, really wasn't a problem.
-Good heating in the rooms for the cold weather!
-Breakfast was pretty good (but not amazing) - fruit, yoghurt, bread, bacon, juices and nice selection of teas.

Development/Bad Points:
-A little far from town centre for us: about a 25minute walk. And not exactly a beautiful walk in, unfortunately.
-Another space for clothes/more drawers would be helpful; as this was minimal.
-Staff not overly friendly/helpful, but were fine.

Overall, a good hotel but probably not special. Either 3 or 4 stars, somewhere in the middle, depending on what is important to you! Worth staying there if you catch a good offer?!

this was a pleasant surprise from the moment we entered the lobby. Tastefully modernised historic building with gorgeous rooms. Free wifi and generous breakfast, though the breakfast room is a little awkward to negotiate. There is a bus outside which goes to Karlsplatz, a metro station nearby and a good selection of shops and eating places everywhere.
The lift is positioned well away from the rooms, so they all seem to be excellent

I stayed 2 nights at 2 different occasions in this hotel. It is an old Austrian living hose totally adapted as a hotel. Very stylish and clean environment, only about 250m to U4 Station, easy to walk to the Naschmarkt, one of the good sights to see in Vienna. The rooms were very clean, the team very helpful. We had a room in the highest floor, totally quiet and a nice view over the roofs of Vienna. Breakfast is served in the main entrance area, good choice, we picked the peak time and is was crowded, but the team realized this and acted immediately to clean all empty tables and remove dishes. Very good bargain.

I stayed here with my Husband and a friend during the opening week of the hotel. We were really excited to be staying at a new 4 star hotel. We booked a double room with an extra bed. The day of our arrival the hotel called us to inform us they did not have any extra beds and they would give us a second room right next to us instead. We were traveling as a group of 3 and didn't really like having the third person in another room but they assured us the rooms were next to each other and there was no other option. We arrived and had a fairly easy check in, when going to our rooms we realize that our two rooms were not next to each other, one was inside and the other was across the hallway past the elevators and then on the outside balcony. This wasn't convenient and was a bit uncomfortable for the girl traveling with us alone. Her door key did not work and we ended up having to use the key card and an actual key at the same time in order to get inside. The staff clearly was open about how a lot of things in the hotel did not work properly due to construction failures. The rooms were sub par and very basic, less than Ikea quality I can assure you. The bed was absolutely the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in in my life, it was the quality of a hostel NOT a 4 star hotel. The biggest complaint was the bathroom. The shower and toilet shared the same area, no shower door or water stop. When you showered, it flooded the entire bathroom with water and you were unable to use it due to the poor construction of the drain being in the wall and not in the floor and there not being anything to separate the shower from the rest of the bathroom (no doors!) When you showered you faced the toilet, this was weird. After one person showered the bathroom was flooded so no one could use it afterwards, even the toilet. We had to use all of our towels and mop up the water so we could use it. It was by far the most ridiculous thing ever. Our air conditioning did not work, when we asked for someone to look at it,. the guy came and said he would be right back and never returned. We waited around on him for him to not return. The next day as we were having breakfast, the construction workers entered my friends room in order to fix her door, they did not notify us of this and she then had to move her things into our room. We were checking out that day, so it could have waited, what if she had been in the shower? I will say that the staff at the front desk and at breakfast were all wonderful and very helpful. I felt sorry for all the complaints they were getting because it wasn't their fault. The owners of the hotel were staying there the same nights and we saw them many of times, not once did they speak to us or ask how our stay was going, actually it felt uncomfortable to see them all roaming around and not interacting with guest. The balcony's for the outside rooms looked more like scaffels for construction. Overall this was a HOSTEL not a hotel and surely not a 4 star as they claim. The location was good and fairly easy to reach by U bahn or bus. The street is busy and next door to a Police station. The wifi was not good quality either. We would not stay here again, mainly due to the shower situation and the uncomfortable beds. Also, the price they ask per night of 190 euro is a joke for this hotel. Thankfully we got good rates through booking.com for the opening week, I could not imagined it had I paid 190 per night to stay at this place.

Dear Janice,

First of all, thank you very much for choosing us for your stay in Vienna. We apologize for all the inconvenience you had to experience during your stay.

Our first days of operation was an extremely busy period in the city hence we were fully booked and even our extra beds were sold. We gave you the extra room based on our agreement over the phone but if we had known that this would cause you any kind of inconvenience we would have given you one of our extra beds.

Regarding the bathroom defaults we immediately put the room you stayed in as out of order and retiled the whole floor. Since the hotel is brand new we continuously do quality checks to avoid similar issues in the future.

Thanks to your comment, today we inspected all the electronic locks in the hotel and fixed the defaults. We have already done the same with the air-conditioning but we will surely double check it in the upcoming days.

Regarding the high room rates I can assure our guests that the EUR 190 rate is only our official rate for the standard rooms, a rate that we only have to indicate towards the local authorities but our guests will always get their rooms on a much more discounted rate level.

Best regards,

Balint, Katona
