We arrived with our family at midday
The excellent Concierge had booked trips for each day of our stay .
Our rooms were excellent with huge beds and beautiful Bathrooms.
Swimming Pool and spa were luxurious and much enjoyed.

Room Tip: We had several adjacent rooms - overlooking a courtyard - so no complaint - quiet!!

My wife and I had a layover and wanted to get just a feel of Vienna. I booked the Ritz-Carlton which cost a few more points than the Marriott a block away. I have stayed over 600 nights in hotels due to business travel, and I honestly don't know what problems people find with this hotel. You folks need to get over yourselves.

The Ritz location is great (within walking distance of all the sights and an array of restaurants), staff is very attentive (perhaps a little deliberate), the rooms are large (and well appointed), and the food is very good.

We had a very pleasant, albeit brief stay at the Ritz in Vienna. Our intentions are to return to both.

I visit Vienna a few times a year and the Ritz-Carlton certainly tops my list of preferred hotels in town. This was my second stay and will not be my last.

I understand that the hotel was originally fitted out as a Mandarin Oriental before they pulled out and Ritz-Carlton took it over with minimal changes. The fittings are therefore not typical of other Ritz-Carlton hotels, but it is certainly modern and very comfortable. My room (6th floor, front) was well furnished and spacious, with very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The bathroom was very well fitted out, although maybe given its Mandarin Oriental origins, the toilet and walk-in shower are slightly tight for "larger" people. The room was very quiet, with little or no street noise, even from the trams passing by.

I have always found the staff very welcoming and nothing has been a problem for them. The doormen are always very friendly, and I always have a chat with them when leaving or returning to the hotel. Whilst a number of the staff are not Viennese, or even Austrian, I did not find this a problem, especially as I know Vienna quite well. Check-in and check-out were very efficient with no problems and it was nice to be welcomed back.

Breakfast is served in the lounge area. I did prefer it when breakfast was served in the restaurant but this is probably too small if the hotel is busy. However, the food selection was excellent and always fresh. Dstrikt, the hotel restaurant, is an excellent choice for dinner with great food and an excellent wine list. As smoking remains permissible in many Vienna restaurants and cafes, Dstrikt is a good non-smoking option, although smoking is surprisingly allowed in the hotel bar.

The hotel is situated in a great location for exploring central Vienna, with most if not all of the main attractions and shopping within easy walking distance.

Room Tip: There are a lot of steps in the hotel, so check with reception if this will be a problem.

we have stayed in many ritz carltons all over the world, and there is usually a certain standard one expects when choosing to stay in one. this one in vienna has a lobby that looks pretty ordinary with low ceilings, with a lounge/breakfast area which seems like an afterthought with no character, and very basic rooms that makes one feel like you are staying in a marriott.

the check in staff upgraded us to a bigger room which we were thankful for, however the quality of the furniture and finishing of the room need work. the bathroom amenities were made by Asprey, which was a nice touch. there was no razors, no toothbrushes nor combs. the toilet paper was very hard and stiff. there was no stationary set with pen. the two armchairs in the room were too high for the coffee table making it very uncomfortable to drink or have a snack. the most shocking thing was, there was NO turndown service UNLESS requested!!! i have never been to a ritz carlton hotel where you have to call to request for one. plus, the aircon/ heat control was off, even when i set the temp on the controls to 28C, it kept registering 22C. i have brought this up to the front desk but to no avail.

ok the good points were: our room was ample size, with plenty of closet space. the concierges were great, very helpful with restaurant reservations and getting us concert tickets. the bell boys were very friendly and helpful too. so that kind of made up for the lack lustre rooms.

It appears that there are still some problems: The staff tries very hard to achieve international standards but doesn't. Special wishes, extra care and cultural awareness are rare. The famous Vienna coffee tastes better in the neighbouring coffee houses.

I am a long-term elite member with Marriott rewards and have only limited experiences with Ritz Carlton. Going into our stay, my standards were very high for the Ritz brand and every expectation we had was met or exceeded. We stayed at the Ritz Vienna for 4 nights over Thanksgiving week. The hotel is immaculate; the decor is excellent, a very clean, modern, refined look (not the stereotypical traditional glitzy look with lots of golds). Service was extremely responsive and personalized on nearly all levels.

We had a beautiful room looking out onto the front street (Schubertring, or the Ring Road). The room was well appointed and well kept; maid service was excellent. The front desk service was equally responsive and helpful - having never been to VIenna, we had numerous questions about how to get places, etc. Each question was responded to with brevity, accuracy and ease. Each time we went to the front desk with any question we never waited more than 15 or 20 seconds for staff to become available. If there were other guests already being helped by front desk staff, other staff quickly came to the desk to assist. The concierge was also most helpful - both via e-mail before our stay and in person and by phone during our stay; we dined at a upscale restaurant one evening and a couple of days later wanted to get a copy of the menu - the concierge called the restaurant and the menu was delivered to our guest room later that same day. The fitness center was expansive and well kept; the pool was beautiful.
The Ritz location in VIenna is convenient, without being right in the middle of a very busy/touristy area. It's walking distance to the pedestrian area of the old city and St. Stephens cathedral. It's 2 minutes walk out the back door of the hotel to the nearest subway station (Stadtpark). We took the subway several times but generally walked most days. Taxis were also readily available and convenient.

My one very minor grip would be that our guest room, on the front of the building, did not have black out curtains. The lighting from the exterior of the building shined into the room a bit more than I would have liked at night.
