Visited Schonbrunn Palais in early August. We arrived around 10.30 to find crowds of people with the same idea of arriving early. We firstly did the tour of the state rooms starting at 11.15, this lasted around an hour, with a handset which gave you extensive information of the history. We toured the gardens which were beautiful and very well kept by an army of 80 gardeners. We then visited the Gloriette by a land train, too far to walk. Saw the maze but did not attempt it as the weather was very hot. Relaxed back in the gardens for a couple of hours before an Appfelstrudel making display, free sample given, delicious. If the crowds were much less we would have given the extra star rating, very interesting and enjoyable though.

Our two daughters somehow went there by themselves (aged 21 and 16) and they liked it so much they insisted my wife and I came along with their 3 siblings the next day. Very easy to get to on the underground and a thoroughly impressive building. The gardens are also gorgeous. A really nice day out and it brings home how the rich (in this case Empress Maria Theresa) used to live.

Admittedly, we haven't looked through all the nooks and crannies of this garden, but from what we've seen, we were thoroughly pleased, and transposed back in time a century or two. I loved how there's everything here a garden can offer: small hidden corners; walls of rose bushes; vast and spectacular views; quiet and shadowy pathways... It leaves nothing to wish for.

SOOOO beautiful!!! As being in a fairy tale.
There was a place where we could filled out bottles with water.
We had picnique (with watermeloon) and we didn´t step on the grass as most of others did :P :D
We fed squirels :D

Amazing place to go. Gold ticket valid for A year. Main palace tour a bit disappointing as caught up behind tours so slow to progress and take in the rooms.
Grounds beautiful and breathtaking. Something interesting around every corner. Wildlife friendly and brave.
Zoo is good too.
Labrynth and mazes great fun for kids.
Highly recommended
