On route to the Albertina we saw the banners outside the Dorotheum. We assumed that it was a musuem but was not listed in my guidebook. We had to investigate and what a delightful surprise. A stunning building over 4 floors filled with an incredible range of antiques, fine art and collectibles. But its main purpose is an auction house and as the previous contributor reported it is an odd experience to walk around what appears to be a top class musuem and gallery, but that everything is for sale.
Whilst you may not want to go out of your way to visit Dorotheum, if you are nearby and spot the large red banners it is worth popping in. There is a well appointed cafe on the second floor and if you have limited mobility there are lifts to all floor.
