I was in one of the downtown hotels for a business meeting in early July and wanted someplace different for a second night, after the conference was over. Found The Rooms right here in Trip Advisor and was intrigued by the reviews. This is a unique, lovely place and one can tell that Eva put a lot of thought into the rooms, themselves, and the common areas. The designs are whimsical -- I don't have photos of my own but the photos others have posted (and the owners', too) are representative of this place. Each room is one-of-a kind.
I was traveling solo and stayed in in a smaller room ("Contemplation") that is very comfortable for one and would do for two -- the room has a small balcony and the inside is furnished imaginatively with some unique furnishings. And it's modern and comfortable -- I especially appreciated the sizable bathroom.
I really enjoyed the breakfast set-up -- others have posted some lovely pictures of the front room. It's a veranda really, open to the garden in nice weather. Breakfast is served there, and the homemade muesli is just delicious, with add-on ingredients on the table, too, and fresh bread, nice jams, fresh fruit, and good coffee. .
I'm glad Eva has a helper for breakfast service, because I needed to leave early for the airport and The Rooms totally accommodated my request for an early breakfast (7 am -- that's great for a B&B).
The Rooms are a part of the family house -- yet the B&B part of the house has its own entrance. Information and help are close by, yet one doesn't feel like he/ she is intruding on family life.
My companions at breakfast that day were a nice couple who had driven in from elsewhere in Austria for a school interview that morning (if you are driving, there is street parking). After breakfast, I sat outside for a few peaceful moments in the small, pretty garden -- in which Joshua (co-innkeeper) and I had had a chat the previous evening as he watered the plants after his day job!
Several reviewers have mentioned how accessible the hotel is to downtown, and I echo that. The Rooms' own Web site will give you a flavor for that, and good directions for the short walk from Kagran Metro stop to the B&B, which is on a residential street. Not far from the metro is a bus to the airport -- it is an efficient and inexpensive way to get to the airport. Obtain good directions from Eva on just where to catch the bus -- it runs on a precise schedule and is not exactly co-located with the Metro Station.
The first week in July 2012 experienced quite a heat wave in central Europe -- I got the impression that all of Vienna is not prepared for that kind of heat. Anyway, my room (and I suppose all the rooms) do not have a/c. It does have a fan. Something to take into account if a/c is a requirement for you in hot weather.
A very pleasant stay -- I would gladly stay again, as a solo or as a couple.
