“Just a bit weird.”
Reviewed May 23, 2014

The room was average and what we expected. The breakfast wasn't anything special all. The location wasn't bad, really close to Westbahnhof, there is also a large shopping street only a few minutes walk away. The cooking facilities were limited to a microwave and a kettle but it's enough to make do. The wifi didn't reach our room which was annoying.
There was just something about this hostel that was just a bit strange. It mostly came down to the guests, which I know is beyond the control of the staff, although the behaviour of one guest in particular definitely put a dampener on our stay and it seemed to go ignored by the staff.

Really solid hostel close enough to the city centre to be good. Metro station 1 minute away. Hostel itself was clean, comfortable. All the staff were super friendly and willing to help when it came to finding things to do and recommending things. Decent

We were going to be in Vienna for 3 nights, but cut our visit short partly because the weather was horrendous, but partly because we felt pretty uncomfortable in this hostel.
It is not close to the centre at all, the subway will become your best friend. We usually walk everywhere but in bad weather conditions it is a horrible walk.
The bunk bed that was left in our 10 bed dorm was one stuffed into the corner behind other beds and behind the lockers, so it was difficult to get in and out. The lockers were behind the door/beds and there wasn't anywhere for the bin to actually go.
WiFi is only available in the common area but it is good signal there. Plugs are difficult to get to in the rooms, but easy to access in the common area.
The common area is pretty nice and has sofas, a kitchen and table football. We also found that the staff were pretty friendly and helpful when we wanted to cancel our third night.

Myself and 4 friends were taking part in a charity hitch hike called the big hitch, where we were aiming to travel from London to Budapest without spending any money. We arrived in Vienna around 10pm and did not need to leave for our next train until 6am the next morning therefore visited this hostel as a safe place to stay for a couple of hours in the night. As we were not allowed to spend any money the hostel receptionist kindly agreed to let us stay free of charge in their common room. We were all very grateful as it was raining outside and it didn't seem worthwhile getting a room for the short space of time. The hostel was in a perfect location to the westbarnoff train station with plenty places to eat and drink surrounding and the receptionist we met was very welcoming and helpful in helping us with our voyage. We did not get to check out any bedrooms but the common room we stayed in was cosy and sociable. And the hostel itself was also very clean. If we are ever back in Vienna we would definitely come back and stay properly.

I spent a couple of nights at the Westend City, which, is pretty centrally located for the things you'd probably want to see and do. I found the hostel a little strange though, and more so the guests - which, I know the management have no control over to a degree. It appeared that whole families were living there, which felt that you were in the way. It was fairly clean, for hostel standards. It was however very much regulated like no noise after 8pm or a 100 Euro fine, and the lift is turned-off between 10pm and 7am - again, to prevent noise. I'm assuming there's been lots of complaints, from the neighbours? Breakfast wasn't much, but, okay if you need a little to get you going. I did find it funny that instead of juices, you had the substitute of water - which I know, is much healthier!

Clean, comfortable rooms, each with their own bathroom and heating. Staff were friendly and helpful, and provided a map of the city upon arrival. The location isn't optimal for visiting touristy areas, but there's a multitude of shops and a metro station easily within walking distance. The wifi struggled to reach the second floor, but the common room and terrace are comfortable enough and both have a strong signal.

Breakfast consists basic cereals, bread/rolls and an assortment of spreads. It's adequate, but probably not worth the 4 euro unless you can't be bothered dealing with a language barrier elsewhere.

Room Tip: There's a little road noise, and construction going on in the vicinity at the moment (Feb 2k14...

I went with my family to Vienna and booked 5 beds at Westend City Hostel. The rooms were clean, the staff was helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was also very nice! Breakfast was included in the price and it was pretty good. We went during Christmas so the breakfast also included delicatessen. The hostel is located near the west train station so it was quite easy to find. The only disadvantage was that you need more than half an hour to go on food to the centre ( where all the attractions are) , so if you are not prepared to walk you should buy a day ticket!
