“Very modern hotel, but very nice and funky!”
Reviewed September 28, 2011

Ultra modern hotel, actually too modern for my liking. But just great in every way! Nice, spacious lobby, amazing breakfast and great rooms. Staff very helpfull and friendly. We always had apples, water annd juice free inn the lobby! An added bonus. The only disadvantage was that the coffee shop was all smoking and it was like entering a cigar house. When you have small kids, this is not always welcomed. But apart from this, location wise, could be better! Slam bang in the centre to everything and everywhere! Will definately stay again. I just need more vacation days!!

We stayed two nights at Le Meridien (a mixture of business and pleasure), and whilst we thought the location was great and we were impressed with its style and modernity when we walked in (funky reception, art everywhere, mood lighting...) we soon came to realise that the hotel didn't quite live up to its chic, boutique vibe and we were a little disappointed.

By way of example (and it has been mentioned in other posts), the shower situation in the bathroom is pretty bad. After one shower, the floor is absolutely soaked, and you have to put down quite a few towels to try to dry it enough to avoid dangerous slips. In addition, there is no ventilation in the bathroom and no heated mirrors so it takes a while for steam to disappear. So whilst the bathroom looks great - lovely bath, spacious shower etc. - it just isn't practical.

In relation to the room, it was great to have free wifi, free minibar and iron & ironing board, but the air conditioning didn't seem to work properly (the room was always incredibly hot) and it also felt quite cramped due to the layout and amount of furniture in the room. The bed was also quite small and not particularly comfortable. Perhaps paying for a more premium room would remedy this.

We also had some concerns about the cleanliness of the room - in particular the toilet was not particularly clean when we arrived, and there was a big smeary mark on the television, which was not removed during our stay.

The gym was also slightly disappointing. I don't expect hotel gyms generally to be big or beautiful, but I expect the machines to be operational. In this gym the running machine sounded completely knackered and the exercise bike was unusable as it felt like the pedals were about to fall off. In addition, the swimming pool and whirlpool were unexpectedly closed during our visit, which we only realised on the way down to use these facilities. The pool area looked quite nice so that was a shame.

As other reviewers have mentioned, breakfast is pricey at €29 and, in my opinion, not worth it. The buffet is a normal breakfast buffet, not a "concept breakfast" as I was expecting, and whilst there was a good deal of choice, it was nothing special.

To end on a positive note, we did find the staff to be very helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed having drinks at the bar, which had a nice, busy atmosphere with a DJ providing some music.

Dear „TruffleSmith“!

Thank you for your detailed feedback and for writing a review on tripadvisor.
We are very disappointed to see, that the mentioned issues overshadowed your stay and lead to the fact that you did not feel completely comfortable during your stay.

It is very concerning for us to see, that you left with such a bad impression, and please be assured that we will follow up on the incidents to avoid any future occurencies.

You are right, the pool was unfortunately closed for a couple of days, and we are very sorry for that. Please understand that we had to do some renovation work, this is necessary as we have to fulfil strict security policies.

We are sorry to see, that our hotel was not up to your expectations and it would be a pleasure for us to get another chance to convince you of our service.

Thank you for commenting so positive on our associates and we are glad to see, that you have had a great time in our Bar “Shambala”.

We hope to welcoming you back again soon,
With kind regards from Vienna

Just returned from a five day stay at the Le Meridien. We used Starwood points (4 for 5 days) so keep in mind our review is based on total hotel bill of $30 euros for 5 days. Location is fabulous. Can't be beat. Free mini bar is much appreciated - although the beer offered is the cheapest available (.57 euros in the grocery store) but still a great benefit. Room layout for us worked well, even though as other posters have mentioned the location of the toilet is a bit awkward. The shower is a "wet room" and on several occasions I literally drenched the whole room thanks to the multiple shower heads. The service is very very good especially housekeeping who keep the rooms spotless. We loved the bed, even more like a double than a queen, it was very very comfortable. The only downside of this hotel is the prices for ancillary products. Renting a move $19 euros, car to airport $45 euros, breakfast buffet $29 euros. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, its a clean, fashionable modern hotel that delivers a great vacation in a beautiful city.

Room Tip: If you have trouble with accessibility or stairs, ask for a room closer to the elevator - there is a...

Thank you for your review and for staying at Le Meridien. We are happy to see that you enjoyed staying in our hotel and that you had a pleasant time in Vienna.
Please be informed, that our free minibar contains beside water, coke and fruit juices also the very well known and favoured “Ottakringer Bier” which is a very popular local beer!

Thank you for mentioning the good service and for your notes.

We hope to welcoming you back again soon,

I recently stayed at the Le Meridien Hotel for my honeymoon. Le Meridien has a great location to see all of the sites in Vienna, cannot be beaten being just a stones throw from the Hofburg and the Opera House. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the hotel even threw in a free upgrade because it was our honeymoon (it was also the middle of the week). Service at the hotel, especially concierge and room service were especially friendly.

My concerns about the hotel are superficial at best and shouldn't turn anyone away from staying at the hotel, but let it stand as fair warning. The bathroom (in the executive rooms at least). the toilet is but two small steps and one frosted plexiglass wall away from the bed. Which made things unnecessarily awkward for my new husband and myself. Also the hotel's check-in time isn't until either 2pm or 4pm (can't remember which). Either way for the haggard American traveler who just flew-in overnight and wasn't able to sleep on the plane it's a little frustrating. The front desk kept saying that our room would be ready in 20 minutes which of course was subject to several delays.

Also this hotel is very modern. There are, what I considered, odd modern art exhibits in the lobby that seem a little out of touch with the historic Vienna located right outside the hotel's doors.

Still, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. If you also like personal tour guides, consider asking the concierge to contact Pier, who was the best tour guide!

Room Tip: Higher floors have beautiful views of the Vienna skyline

This hotel is a little away from the hustle and bustle, but just a couple of subway stops from anywhere. Very easy to get to and from in Austria. We stayed here in advance of a river cruise, and was very nice change of pace. Friends of ours stayed in Stephensplatz and said it was party central until 5AM! Very techno rooms, very moden. We did not eat any meals at the hotel, as we were heading out early in the AM for a day in Vienna, and wanted to head to our ship for the afternoon. Comfortable bed, and extremely quite. We were on the top floor, with vaulted ceilings. The in room amenities were excellent, including the instant coffee! ( was was pleasantly surprized!) Front desk staff were very pleasant and always willing to point us in the right direction. Subway stop is just one block down the street in front of the hotel. We came in from the back side, and it was a bit confusing.

Room Tip: Buy the 3 day tour card for the subway transit at the airport, and get a discount on the CAT highspe...

Visited for 2 days as a city break, but realized we need more for Vienna which is very interesting. Hotel is at an ideal location for all the mayor sights and in prety good condition for a such an old building. We appreciated the room upgrade and the welcome amenities for our anniversary. Quality of breakfast is something to be mentioned and also very caring and attentive staff.
Special thanks to Soni from the restaurant and a young lady at the Front Desk (I think Marina?).
Would definitely go back.
