“Very noisy neighbours”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

These apartments are conveniently situated near an underground station with easy access to the whole of Vienna.

Although it looks promising, I would not stay here again for the following reasons:

1) they charge your credit card for the full amount of your stay even if you book several months in advance. This happens even though the booking infornation says otherwise! If you need to dispute the transaction (for example, if there is an overbooking or they ceased trading) Mastercard would not allow me to do so after 2 months. So it's risky.

2) the building is VERY noisy. If like me, you do not like the sound of children (of various ages) stamping, running, throwing their toys, roller skating on the floor upstairs from 7.00 in the morning to very late at night, and next door children talking, screaming, and their parents disciplining them until 4.00 in the morning (this was so during my stay at least) THEN this place is certainly not for you.

3) the kitchen consists of a microwave, a kettle, a fridge, a couple of glasses, plates, knives and forks. No cooker, no sink (the kettle hardly fits under the bathroom sink tap and washing up is in the bathroom sink too). So you can't really cook much more than you can in a hotel.

4) the shower head was loose and just hung pointing down. You had to hand shower and could not stand under it. This was pointed out but nobody bothered to come and fix it. I could not find a shop to buy a screwdriver. Anyway, why should I have to fix it. So bad service!!

5) the apartment windows are blinded by a foil that stops people looking in and you looking out. So no views at all.

6) the door from the street is left open all the time. This allows anyone into the building. The door to the apartment itself is just a pine wooden door against a frame and can easily be forced. So I did not leave anything of value in the room when I was not there.

7) I paid 100€ per night. I had offers for hotels for less.

Given all the above, a hotel would have been much better value for me, less noise, breakfast included, someone to fix the shower, and you can't really do much in the way of preparing a meal with just a microwave and a kettle for heat.

Pension Tal proved itself to be a very good place to stay at a very good price (275 EUR for 5 nights). We rented a studio that had a kitchinette and bathroom, very clean, very close to the Schottenring station and also very close to the center of the town (If the street or station name ends in "Ring", it means it's on the Ringstrasse, the street that surrounds the middle of the city). I should probably let you know, in case you haven't understood from the description, that Pension Tal is not exactly a hotel, but an agency that rents apartments in the area, so the reception and the room where you'll be staying in may not be in the same building, but they're very close by.
The staff was very friendly, there was free internet and coffee at the reception and also a lot of fliers with information. The only small inconvenient was that some of the staff at the reception (there was only one person working at a time) didn't really speak English, so she couldn't help us with some information we asked for, but it wasn't a major problem.
The room had a radiator that worked very well, and also air conditioning, so it was well suited for any season. Everything was modern, neat and clean, the beds comfortable, there was even a Tv but I didn't bother to touch the remote control, because I didn't go to Vienna to watch TV.
The bathroom was small but nice, it had a shower cabin, they provided us with clean towels every day or every 2 days. In the kitchinette you could find a water heater, a fridge, plates, cups, cutlery and a microwave.
There are only 2 small minuses I can find. One of it is that the walls are pretty thin and you can sometimes hear the neighbours. It wasn't a problem for us, because we usually got to the hotel after 11pm and everyone was asleep already. The second one is that even if I asked for a smoking room, I got a non-smoking room. The sign on the door didn't bother me much, but the fact that it was basically just one big room and there was no smoking place except the room we slept in, did.
Anyway, all in all, I recommend this place to anyone who travels to Vienna. If I ever go back, I would gladly stay there again.

We were there for 5 nights in room #4. The room was clean and nicely designed. The area around is quiet. There were a fridge, microwave, conditioner, TV and even a phone for free international calls. It is 2 minutes walk to Shottering undeground station and about 7 minutes walk to Stephen platz. There is a bus route («Vienna Airport Lines») from airport to Schwedenplatz which is 5 minutes walk to the Pension tal.

We enjoyed accomodation. The pension is well situated. It is easy to get by walk to all the sights inside the Ring. There is also a tram # 1 stop which will bring you to Hundertwasser house, and few undeground lines around.
The staff was nice and pleasent. So if you looking for cheap, clean and well situated accommodation this is the perfect choice.
