“Amazed the other reviews have been so glowing!”
Reviewed September 26, 2004

My friend and I stayed at Pension Domizil from Friday 24 September until Sunday 26 September. We arrived having previously stayed in Prague (at the Anders Design Hotel) and Budapest (NH Budapest). Comparisons with these excellent hotels are unavoidable. Domizil is small and dated, closer in character to a large British bed & breakfast than a hotel. The twin room we were allocated was rather grey and gloomy, with small single beds. The bathroom was large. We were surprised to find no tea or coffee facilities in the room. We were also surprised to be told no iron and ironing board were available (apparently due to health and safety issues!). The buffet breakfast included in our room rate (EUR125 per night) was ok, but nothing special. Awful to say it, but there was something of Basil and Sybil Fawlty about the managers. My friend and I came in very late on Friday night and this was commented upon the next morning! On the plus side, Domizil is VERY centrally located, right behind the house where Mozart lived, near Stephansplatz. If you arrive in Vienna by train, I would strongly recommend the underground, which is very user friendly.

The location is fabulous, right in the heart of the action. The rooms are great, creatively decorated and the service is wonderful. The ONLY negative is that the hotel is located on the same street as one of Mozart's homes, so it is very, very, VERY noisy at all hours. Especially in the morning with the tour buses cruising endlessly down the tiny street. I would stay here again, however, I would make sure that we had a room as far away from the ever-busy street side.

I stayed at Pension Domizil in June with my husband as part of our European vacation. The reviews I read ahead of time were right, the service, staff and location were excellent for those looking to sightsee. Of course, as with all European hotels, the rooms are a bit smaller, but the Standard room I reserved at the Domizil was by far larger than the "Superior" rooms I stayed in in Paris and Munich. I would highly recommend this hotel to any traveler looking for a central location to see much of Vienna's culture and history! The internet access was another feature we were quite thankful for, although the connection was at times slow.

Although it isn't the best cityhotel we have ever visited, and although i don't think that the Dutch traveller will rate this hotel the same way as the average American tourist, i have to say that the location, breakfast and rooms are very nice up to superb! (especially the location). Staff was friendly but not more than that. But what is the problem? With this location you are definetly NOT staying in the hotel but outdoors!

Stayed in this hotel in June 2004, and was really impressed with the value for money (100 Eur including breakfast), friendliness of the staff and the great location (in the shadow of Stephansdom Cathedral in the heart ov Vienna). Breakfast was great, rooms were very spacious and the staff were extremely helpful with dinner recommendations etc. A gem

Location cannot be beat! Rooms were neat, clean; staff was friendly and helpful. Free internet access on their computer in the lobby was a plus. Breakfast was delicious. I felt this was a real "find" in the middle of the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Excellent hotel - location is a stone's throw from St Stephen's. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Room (302) was basic but and excellent size by European (and NA) standards.

Buffet breakfast was varied with a good selection of hot and cold. Most importantly thhe coffee was excellent.

Free internet service in the lobby was very useful - because it was not possible to connext via modem from the room (at least from our room).

Cost for this was E150 May 2004
