Any trip to Vienna will lead you here. Full of restaurants and shopping, something for everyone! No lack of historic architecture either

Like the opportunity to take indoor photos of the expansive place. Didn't like that I didn't get to experience mass there.

Has a certain vibe to it and is certainly the central meeting point of Vienna. Beware of students wearing red coats who constantly try to peddle local concerts to you. Bells from the Cathedral are amazing to hear at night! Worth a trip into the city just to hear them, they play for about 15 minutes before a church service, you could ask in the Cathedral for times.

Trips to Vienna almost always lead you to Stephansplatz, the main city square where you find the enormous gothic church - St. Stephens Cathedral. While St. Stephens is the main reason for visiting this particular area of the Historic City Center of Vienna, there are other things to see/do while visiting the Stephensplatz square.

In additional to being directly accessible by the Metro, you can walk to Stephansplatz via many streets and walkways, including the popular Kärntner Straße, the street running south and linking St. Stephens to the Vienna State Opera House no more than ten minutes away. Another popular shopping street in this area is Gaben street which runs west of Stephensplatz. There are plenty of cafes, konditorei, bars and restaurants in this area of the city center as well.

Another popular building on Stephensplatz that is worth checking out is the Haus & Haus building, which is of a modern architectural design. You can see an almost perfect refection of St. Stephens in the class of this building if positioned in the right place in Stephensplatz.

Overall, not one of our favorite squares in Europe but one worth spending a bit of time if and when visiting Vienna.

We loved the church's spires, roof and the inside is simple and beautiful-- I prefer it to the more wedding-cakey feel of the Austrian baroque that predominates in the city.
