“Chillout spot for gullible hipsters with too much money.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

MQ used to be an exciting place. Just go, and something interesting could be found. Now it's all snooty little wine bars and overpriced artisanal coffee stands, and less and less of anything to do with museums or art. You could possibly stroll through 'Electric Avenue', a hallway with a few decorated windows, maybe there will be a small exhibition here or there. Aside from the Leopold, the museums are a waste. (I have reviewed each separately.)
So if you're part of the hipster scene, wax that moustache, don your most ironic hat, and carry your fixie on down. I'm sure there'll be an arugula sandwich waiting for you.
If you really want to chill here, pack a lunch and save big bucks. Or euros, whatever. I was into euros before it was cool.

“Get a decent map”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

First, Tripadvisor does in fact list MUMOK. Search for "Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation (MUMOK)".

The other thing is that it can be difficult to find your way around the museum quarter using the usual tourist-issue map, which tries to cover most of Vienna, so the museum quarter's only a tiny bit in the middle and the street names, etc are too small to read comfortably. It''ll save a lot of stress if you can get hold of another map, only covering the museum quarter, the Hofburg, the riding school and so on.

“A selection of modern museums”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

This museum was next to my hotel. So by default I frequented it on my way to Maria Theresse Square. It displays modern type of art. As this was not for me, I pass by this v quickly. I concentrated in spending my time on Kuntshistoriches Museum instead

“More than a Quarter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

Over recent years Vienna has developed, with care and imagination, a full complex of museums and art galleries, ranging from very small and contemporary, to grand and historic, plus large modern buildings with changing exhibitions.
You can spend plenty of time here, there are refreshment areas, open air seating (very popular in the summer months).
TripAdvisor lists all the separate galleries, except for some reason, the Mumok.
This building is very distinctive as a slate grey, curved solid block, squatting amidst the historic arcades. Mumok, is the Museum Moderner Kunst, so this is where modern artworks ( 1960's to today) are displayed in spick and span modern surroundings.
Tip 1. Search online as Mumok, if you ask for directions locals know it as Mumok, rather than the full name.
Tip 2, if you really like this style of modern art, other places in Vienna worth seeing are the Kunsthalle, and the Augarten Contemporary, or the Kunstforum.
No restaurant or snack zone in this one, but refreshments are right outside in the MQ zone, or a short walk to Mariahilferstrasse if you walk past the white Leopold Building.
Well run and pleasant gallery, just for my taste I was more interested in the architecture of the gallery than the contents !
Walking time to Hofburg is only 10 minutes.
