Owner description: The baroque world in the State Hall What comes to mind when you think of a library hall? Enter the State Hall of the Austrian National Library and your expectations are guaranteed to be exceeded. Feel the essence of history. The State Hall – built in the 18th century as part of the former Court Library – is a breathtaking 80 metres long and 20 metres high. An intricately decorated dome and numerous frescos provide an imperial flair. This baroque jewel is home to over 200,000 tomes. Four magnificent Venetian globes, each with a diameter of over one metre, provide the finishing touch to the heart of the Austrian National Library.

“Fantasy land for bookworms!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is a fantastic place. The building is beautifully maintained. It looks like a library from a movie like say, "Harry Potter". Don't miss it because it's not something you see everywhere. I would love to be a librarian here! :D

“Amazing”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

I went to the Baroque or Grand hall of the library and it is amazing. It is beyond gorgeous and an absolute must-see. It only cost around 4 euros for a student to get in. The best part is it is the only old library that I've been able to take pictures in. Do not miss this.

This Baroque Library housed within the Hofberg Palace complex is impressive in both its size and beautiful wood carvings and murals. Another great piece of Viennese architecture.

Reviewed October 29, 2012

As for the library itself, it is a part of Hofburg, so amazing place, amazing building. Even if I am not german speaking, the staff was very friendly and helpfull and I really did not have any troubles. It is a very nice place, where I can work efficiently. I will come back soon :)
