“Impressive building, less than impressive lift...”
Reviewed February 18, 2014 via mobile

I would hardly lay claim to be expert in church design and decor, but this baroque example is stunning inside. Relatively small, so a visit need not take all day.
There is a lift which supposedly takes you up to a viewing platform, but in fact takes you two thirds of the way, then it scaffolding stairs the rest of the way, which are quite rickety and not suitable for anyone who is not reasonably fit, or indeed scared of heights.
The final platform does give views, but these are obscured by mesh over windows, which themselves are fairly small.
So, for 8 euro each, the church itself is worth a visit, but don't go expecting to be knocked out by the lift and viewing platform experience - it is a disappointment.

“Beautiful Architecture!”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

This church was beautiful from a across the square and up close. The inside of the church was amazing too! Beautiful colourful marble columns and wonderful, uplifting statues. The view from the top of the tower was breathtaking. I also went back that evening for a concert of Vivaldi, Hayden and several other composers. It was amazing to hear such beautiful music in such a magnificent building.

“What an experience.”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Right in the centre of the city, areal spectacle.
They charge an entrance fee which is to cover the Restoration work.BUT>>>>>
Once inside there is a lift that is being used by the restorers, but YOU can go right up to the top of the dome and see all the ceiling murals close up.
A real bonus that gives you an insight into how the domes were constructed & decoarated

“Beautiful building, but hard to appreciate with scaffolding”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We attended a really fantastic concert at St. Charles Church just after Christmas and I think that was the best way to experience this church. It's a lovely building, but there is scaffolding up the whole middle for the "panoramic lift" which means you can't see the vault from the ground. I'm not sure if the scaffolding and lift are permanent or part of a restoration effort, but hopefully it'll be removed some day.
