Owner description: The two Belvedere palaces were built in the early eighteenth century by the famous Baroque architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt to be used as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736). One of Europe’s most stunning Baroque landmarks, this ensemble – comprising the Upper and Lower Belvedere and an extensive garden – is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today the Belvedere houses the greatest collection of Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, complemented by the work of international artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Max Beckmann. Highlights from the holdings Vienna 1880–1914 are the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt’s paintings (including the famous golden Art Nouveau icons the Kiss (Lovers) and Judith) and works by Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. Key works of French Impressionism and the greatest collection of Viennese Biedermeier art are further attractions on display at the Upper Belvedere.

It's a wonderful place! Full of wonderful art, lots of Klimt, if you are into that - my boyfriend wasn't so he suffered throught a part of it - but the best part is the howling room. There's a room with high ceilings, quite empty, where a sign invite you to scream as hard as you can. Do so, really. The room will do something very funny.

I think this was our favorite tourist attraction in Vienna.
The gardens are pretty nice, the palace looks really good.
You can take nice pictures there.

It's a must visit if you are in Vienna.

In the Orangerie of the lower Belvedere Palace, we visited one of the finest exhibitions of Monet, portraits coming from all over the world to Vienna, well worth a visit, and lose your thoughts, cares and wories in the depths of one of Monet's masterpieces!
Also visited the small cafe up in the loft above the Orangerie, which allowed you to rest weary feet, rest a while, and discuss the exhibition over a cup of coffee and cake.

Great juts to see the works of Gustav Klimt but there is much more to see as well. We visited during the winter but I imagine the gardens are spectacular in the summer months.
