“In front of <The Kiss>”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

I went to this museum because of <The Kiss>, out of many museums in Vienna and limited time that I have. I took the tram, changing route, Belvedere was out of my sight however it was shown in the map. After pondering around, the palace was "hidden" behind the wall.
Nice palace and by not failed, I saw <The Kiss> (and also other Klimt's master pieces).
And I stunned.

“Beautiful exterior”
Reviewed February 26, 2014 via mobile

We visited the upper belvedere purely to see the Gustav Klimt exhibition and specifically "the kiss". I was not disappointed! Having loved his work for some time I couldn't pass this up and wow what an artwork!

Having no knowledge of the property outside of this, it was a pleasant surprise to find such a beautiful property. The outside gardens and lake are stunning with the building in the background and make for some stunning photos.

In terms of the rest of the exhibitions within the upper belvedere there was a wide variety of art styles so it was a good mix of paintings. The small descriptions of what each room was were also worth reading as I think the building itself was more fascinating than the art! Worth a visit for a couple of hours

I bow to Gustavo Klimt for the vast range of his style and to the bold way in which he has took on the issues affecting europe, then. Our guide dr patrick Karez was simply superb

“Worth a visit - especially for Klimt / Napoleon fans ...!”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

It's a bit of a trek from the U1 U-Bahn station to here and has already been pointed out, I'm not sure it's the safest area after dark (lots of traffic, etc.). Could be combined with a visit to the nearby military museum (but I have my reservations about this place that I've mentioned in a seperate review). The grounds are free and the views spectacular. It will be even better in spring when the sky is blue, the gardens are in bloom and the fountains full!

Entrance fees - I visited the upper palace only and it's €12. Lower palace is €11 and a combined ticket is €19. There are no handouts but audio guides for both are €4 each ... starting to push prices up. Suffice to say - in the upper palace there was enough information in German and English to get by. Credit cards accepted.

Good lockers (€1 or €2 returned). Dump all your gear and coats in these. Photography is not allowed and is strictly enforced. Don't even try! Lift to all floors.

I'm not a big art fan but there was plenty to see and like. And yes, the section on Klimt and the portrait of Napoleon do live up to expectations!

Large shop with lots of books. Extensive postcards and posters which (surprise, surprise) is heavily orientated to Klimt. Mustn't forget to mention Klimt, must we ...!

Cafe / Bistro on site which seemed reasonable. There's a cafe across the road but read the TA reviews ...

“Beautiful and full of art inside. ”
Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

This palace is located in the middle of the city, close to the center. It's architecture is impressive as well as the gardens in the back and front fountain. Inside you will fine a lot of very important art pieces, specially from Gustave Klimt. At nights is not very well illuminated so I strongly recommend a morning or early afternoon visit. We were doubtful about visiting it because of some average reviews but were definitively happy with our decision to give it a try!
