Belvedere is the small castle of Prince Eugene that has been converted to a rather wonderful art museum featuring Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and others of the period.

It comprises 3 1/2 floors of art broken into periods and styles. Start at the top floor and work your way down for an easy trip and journey through time.

Of interest also is the architecture itself which is partially restored in many of the rooms to reflect a glory of an earlier time.

you can also buy combination tickets to other museums but we plain ran out of time. Vienna requires a lot of time if you are a museum buff.

All of the museums are easily reachable by tram or underground so yo ushould learn how to use it and have fun it operates wonderfully!

Go here (and the Leopold plus Albertina) for more modern pictures though it also has a small mediaeval section. A lovely building or rather buildings as the Lower Belvedere shows temporary exhibitions. Some of the Austrian art is merely ok but this where to go to see Klimt and Schiele (though for him the Leopold has more) plus Kokoschka and also the odd french impressionist.

Amazing buildings (Lower and Upper not being floors but geographically positioned one on the hill the other below). Fabulous manicured gardens. Loved seeing Klimts works.

Interesting archtecture and grounds. Lovely informal flower garden at lower Belvedere. The Belvedere is basically a huge art gallery mostly memerable for works by symbolist painter Klimt and his Art Nouveau contemporaries. You can see the "Kiss" his most famous painting. If you like Art Nouveau it's an unmissable visit though I didn't think it was the most impressive gallery I had visited.
Disliked - the lack of original interiors, disappointingly it was basically unfurnished.

We appreciate the morning in this wonderful garden. Belvedere Palace displays Gustav Klint paintings: exciting! It was the best place that we visit in Vienna
