Owner description: The Museum of Military History, one of the most important history museums in the world, is situated right in the centre of the Arsenal. About five-hundred years of Austrian and European History are depicted in the collections exhibited in the main building, which has kept its character of an artistic synthesis, making visible, by means of thousands of original exhibits, a part of world cultural heritage. In five major sections the museum shows the history of the Habsburg empire from the end of the 16th century until 1918 and Austria's fate after the dissolution of the monarchy up to the year 1945.

“Incredible building with varied and interesting exhibits.”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Four hours of Austro-Hungarian military history! I survived and really enjoyed it. My husband is a knowledgeable military historian and it was really helpful to have him there because there are only English information panels in part of the museum. The building itself is incredible with an amazing ceiling on the first floor.

“One of the best Military museums”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

If this is not the best Military museum then it would be very close to it.
Every corner the displays are done so well. The floors and rooms separate different time periods.
When we walked around the corner and found the actual car Archduke Ferdinand was in when it was killed we were a little shocked to be so close to history.
Outstanding displays even for a non-military buff.

“HUGE Museum”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

The museum is absolutely worth a visit. We only had an hour which was far too little. The museum is abolutely massive, with an enormous collection spanning many hundred years of history. From the Thirty Years War to WWII, there is almost too much to see. The automobile from Sarajevo was a definitive highlight. The museum is also very good value.
They provide information in english and many other languages on papers found in each exhibit. You can take these papers with you if you wish. They have guided tours, which is a good idea, in german, and I think they do them in english if you book in advance.
There was a museum café in the middle of the museum, but also several other cafés in the surroundings and in the Schweizergarten. Most of them were closed, but they are probably open in summer. The Schweizergarten park itself was very beautiful, and probably more so in summer.

Take the tram from the city center to avoid the long walk from the subway through the building site which is to become the new Südbanhof.

“Worth the trip!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Extensive museum, covering nearly a thousand years of Austrian military History. Worth it just to see the car that Franz Ferdinand was shot in. Truly a piece of history. There's also a section on the Austrian navy. "Navy?", you say? Check it out.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Imagine reading few history books about Austria in few good hours but instead of reading just wonder and look around to the thousands of exhibits, photos, statues...If you are interested in history and military stuff, this is one museum you would not want to miss going to Vienna. It is worth it, easy to find and not expensive as ticket price.
