We stayed in a room for "backpackers" - we did find it rather cramped but it was clean. The central location was fantastic and it did offer value for money. The breakfast was good - the coffee excellent.

We have just returned from staying at the Kugel and we enjoyed our stay, that is untill we received the bill on the morning that we were leaving. When we booked the hotel we were verbally told that our rate was 83 Euros for 4 nights and as they had no standard rooms available they would give us one with the a canopy bed (we would have preferred not to have one). Additionally, when we arrived at our hotel, for some reason they had us booked in for 3 nights only we explained to them that we were staying 4 nights at a rate of 83 Euros--and the receptionist seemed to be okay with this. When we went to check out on our final day they handed us a bill for 400 Euros. I tried to explan to the hotel manager the situtation but he was very curt with us. He did however try to call the receptionist but she did not confirm the 83 Euro rate. We ended up paying the 400 Euros.
We learned our lession that when someone offers you a discounted rate make sure you have it in writing. Finally, the hotel was not very customer-service oriented in dealing with my situation which may have been a language or cultural issue but did leave us with our sour taste.
With deep sorrow we had to read this review, and the
reasons why it was written that way may never be revealed.
The confirmed room rate was EUR 100.-, and
it was confirmed in written form 3 weeks before the clients´ arrival, so there is just no way to talk about a sudden rate change, which is of course something we never ever do.
Everybody can be assured, the Hotel Kugel stands behind its Fair-Price Policy.
I recently spent 4 nights B&B at the Hotel Kugel in Siebensterngasse, Vienna and am certainly happy to recommend it to others. A single en suite room is around 60 Euros per night which includes a very pleasant continental breakfast. My room was spotlessly clean and I was most comfortable. The usual facilities all worked effectively and I had no concerns about any aspect. I found all the staff friendly, responsive and very helpful with advice and information on a range of tourist type enquiries. The hotel is about 15 minutes leisurely walk from the Hofburg Palace and the Museum Quarter while the "not to be missed" 7 Stern Brau brewpub/restaurant is further along the same street.
I would have no hesitation in returning to Hotel Kugel whenever I'm next in Vienna.
We stayed in the Hotel Kugel for 2 nights. It's centrally located near the innerstadt (old center) and there are frequent trams running just outside the hotel. The trams are excellent in Vienna. This makes quite a loud sound but the trams don't run too often in the middle of the night. The matresses of the bed are terrible and it was almost impossible to find a good position to sleep.
The rooms are a bit shabby but clean. The breakfast is ok.
