“Excellent location for Christmas Markets”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We booked this hotel on a TA recommendation that it was a good place to stay for the local Christmas markets. We were beyond pleased with this hotel. We had been to Vienna a few times before so we did know the area. It is only about 2 blocks to the Rauthauspark Christmas market and about 2 blocks to the U-bahn that will get you to just about any other location within the city. There is a Billa supermarket just down the street for snacks or beers for the hotel room. There are a few dive bars in the area, mostly smoking establishments. We spent a few evenings at Einsteins just down the street for beers and coffee (a non-smoking bar). The hotel does offer breakfast, but we opted to head to one of the two Ankers a few blocks away for pastries in the mornings.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We simply could not have asked for more with lodging. It was such a pleasant stay. We will definitely consider this hotel on our next trip to Vienna, and highly recommend it, especially if you plan to visit in December to tour the Christmas markets.

We stayed here over Christmas 2013 and had a great experience. The location is great, the tram stops 1 block away, and it is less than 5 min walk to 2 U-bahn stops.
The rooms are decent size (especially for Europe) and the bathrooms are nice too. The staff are very helpful and don't mind speaking English or helping you with your poor German, like me.
It was clean, and very affordable. The only complaints are the breakfast (only the coffee was complimentary) and rooms get stuffy, no ventilation.
Overall _ EXCELLENT

We chose this hotel as part of a British Airways short stay package for visiting the Vienna Christmas Markets just prior to Christmas itself. One of the main reasons for us choosing this particular hotel was the superb location as we were literally five minutes away from the City Hall and the main Vienna 'Christkindl' market. The hotel was in a very quiet location. We had no road noise and the hotel itself was very quiet. All other central tourist attractions are within easy walking distance but the underground and tram are there as excellent and reasonably cheap alternatives. We had a room pre-booked but were able to upgrade easily prior to our arrival to one at the top of the hotel, having already done our research we knew about it being hot in the Summer (but, of course this wasn't going to be an issue). Our room had air conditioning, don't know about other rooms, and we even had to turn our room temperature down a bit. There are loads of nice touches to this place including flasks of hot tea and coffee by the reception ready for when you are about to venture outside as well as complimentary fruity alcoholic punch as a nice alternative ! A taxi was booked for our arrival at Vienna airport by the hotel (to avoid any hassle as we arrived later in the evening) and it was waiting for us with no problems whatsoever. All the staff we encountered spoke fantastic English and were very helpful. Our only gripe with our stay was the fact that the breakfasts are a little expensive at 15 Euros a head although the variety of food available was certainly good.

Room Tip: We were in room 617. It was very spacious and so was the bathroom, but it is in the roof with no vie...

We primarily choose this hotel because of the short distances to sights and city center. We went in December to check out the Christmas markets. The hotel is conveniently located in a calm area with only one-way alleys surrounding it, but it’s only around 400 m to two metro stations and even shorter distance to the tram stop. There is also a supermarket a couple of hundred meters away.

The check-in was swift and friendly with clear signs on the desk for the check-in and check-out counter respectively. Overall, everyone of the staff we met was kind and helpful.

Our room was located on the fourth floor and there’s a normal sized elevator and a wide staircase if you’d like to walk up. Our double room was of very good size and good planned. There was a big working desk and a mini-bar with a TV on top. The TV was an old flat 15-17” screen in 4:3 format which means that today’s widescreen broadcasts are just a band in the middle. Many channels, mainly in German but also CNN and some Italian channels. A kettle was provided and some different teas and coffees and a bottle of water. Wine glasses, mugs and regular glasses were available. The bed was very good. The WiFi worked well but had no security at all. You could just log on and surf without entering any codes. Be careful so you don’t compromise your data!

There was a huge closet with built-in lights (great idea!) and the safety deposit box was in the middle in perfect height for handling. In many hotels the deposit boxes are too high or too low or behind other doors etc, but not here! There is also an electrical outlet in the box which means you can charge batteries in there. The box is locked and unlocked with a code or your credit card (no charge).

The bathroom was good sized and clean with good spaces to put your personal belongings. The bathtub was equipped with a small glass door that should keep the shower splashing to a minimum but really, that doesn't work. If you use the shower, the floor will get wet. Not a huge problem though. Water pressure and temperature was very good.

The breakfast was amazing and fresh and the staff there was so kind and helpful! Loved it!

The not-so-good:

* Electrical outlets! Despite the good idea to have one in the deposit box, how hard can it be to provide some extras in the room? We had to remove lamp cords to get all phones and laptops charged.

* An old earplug found under the bed. Not so nice.

* The rooms was probably renovated around 10 years ago and will need an update in the next few years. Everything was working as it should so this wasn't a big issue at all.

We would gladly come back and stay here again! One thing though: I don’t know if the rooms have AC or not so you might want to check that before you book a room in the summer.

We booked this hotel for a 3 night stop in Vienna. It turned out to be absolutely perfect for us. The hotel building is very impressive from the outside and was bright and modern on the inside.

Room
We were given a room on the 5th floor which was a very decent size and recently refurbished. The bed was maybe a touch harder than we are used to at home, but the room was very comfortable.

Location
The location was perfect, two minutes walk from the underground, five minutes from the enormous Christmas market outside the Council house, Easy walking distance to the Hofburg palace, the Art history museum and the Natural history museum and any others

Breakfast
breakfast was good with hot dishes bacon/scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, cold meats, cheeses, coffee, cereals juices etc.

Would certainly stay here again

Room Tip: We had a great room on the 5th floor

I was in Vienna just a 3 night weekend wanted to make the most of it. so this hotel location was great walking distance to all main attractions within the downtown (historic area) I walked everywhere and the area is safe and lovely. The service was courteous the wifi not too bad and the room was nice, quiet, with a lovely bed and shower. All the basic for a stay where you want to be confortable and not pay a lot of money, I will definitively recommend this hotel and stay there again.

Room Tip: A foot the most basic sgl room and it was great.
