“Lovely place to base your Vienna stay”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

It may not be the most up to date and modern of Hotels, but Hotel Rothensteiner is such a great place to stay when visiting Vienna. The owner and family are all really lovely people, very welcoming, very accommodating. The owner himself seems to have a photographic memory of every street in Vienna and can tell you how to get anywhere from the Hotel. Breakfast is a large spread of many and varied dishes, all homemade and laid out fresh for each morning.

We stayed in a number of different apartments. Single occupancy rooms at the top of the building with en suite and cooking facilities. The large apartments for three or more people are beautiful. Modern facilities with a very Viennese Baroque design influence. high ceiling, tal windows, very clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced.

The Aparthotel Rothensteiner is a very cute B&B inn with wonderful service. It is located just outside the Inner Stadt so we used the metro. The metro stop is about 4-5 blocks away, so it is a bit of a walk. The hotel rooms have a small kitchenette to assist those with making snacks and lunches to go. Great experience. We also took our dog, they do lot charge extra pet fees. Only problem is that the closest grass is at the metro stop.

I booked a single and was given a studio with kitchenette on the top floor (5th floor) and everything worked just fine: decent size fridge, good size flat screen TV with a few international channels and WIFI internet. The single bed therein was comfortable with very clean sheets and was large enough to (probably) accommodate two (if they so wish). The first night I was given a studio facing the main street, and, when windows are open you hear traffic noise. Then I asked to switch to another one facing an enclosed courtyard and it was so quiet that I could sleep without any hindrance. The included buffet breakfast was satisfying and the coffee so good (an entire pot is included for every guest and that was cool). The entire edifice is interesting and very nicely decorated for truly nice Viennese experience, plus location is unbeatable as you are a mere kilometer (less than 15 minutes walking or 3 minutes by Bus 48A) from the so called Museum Quarter. During my stay my host was a wonderful lady from Hungary. She was responsive and helpful. For what I paid what a great/fantastic VALUE! I'd stay there again at the soonest opportunity.

Room Tip: Top floor units can be hot (in hot weather). Ask for units facing away from the sun.

I temporarily stayed for two nights before I moved out to my friend's apartment. Hotels tend to be quite expensive in Vienna, and more so if you're looking for places to stay in the First District (Innere Stadt). I'd say, screw that. This hotel is in the 7th District, and it's only minutes away via public transportation to the center of Vienna (there's a tram stop only two blocks away). The neighborhood is quite vibrant, with lots of small shops and restaurants in the vicinity, and not too tourist-y at the same time. I have a very spacious studio apartment in the 5th floor, with a small kitchen area (and fully furnished with nice pots, pans, a water heater, utensils, etc.!). WiFi is free and fast. The bathroom is also legit, although mine doesn't have a shower curtain, so I kept splashing water everywhere. But whatever. The decor is rustic but very clean and I prefer it that way. The owner is also helpful and nice. Make sure you check in before 6pm... I made the mistake of checking in at 11pm and the owner was VERY kind and patient enough to deal with my tardiness. Anyway, I paid 50 euros a night!

The staff was terrific, but the property was dated and a little too far from City Center. The rooms were HUGE, but in need of a facelift. The were however, some good local resturants and easy access to public transportation.

Room Tip: nothing to add; see my review above.

We loved our stay here; four nights with a family of four (2 small kids) plus a dog. The people who work there are really kind and helpful. The building is elegant and very tastefully decorated. Our apartment was huge; totally clean and well furnished. THe kids felt like they were in a palace, but it wasn't the kind of situation where we needed to be nervous about damaging things. The street that its on is sort of undistinguished (I would not call it a quiet substreet - its a pretty busy arterial), but its maybe a half mile walk into the old town. Breakfasts were excellent.

We chanced upon this antique/restored hotel, hidden away on a quiet sub-street - and it became our favorite hotel in Europe. The room included a separate toilet, large corner spa tub, heated tile in the bathroom and tv, sitting room, and spacious bedroom. It was like having a graciously decorated apartment at your disposal. The breakfast buffet also had many choices - hot and cold. We only wished our daughter was with us - she would have felt like a princess.
