If you are looking for a traditional viennese restaurant of good quality, this is one of the places you should go. Nice historical setting and even though there is not much choice for vegetarians, but you can catch up with the excellent desserts (a real highlight). We shared almost what they had on the list and they were really top quality. The fried vegetables with remoulade souce were very good. For not vegetarians the Wienerschnitzel (veil) is a very good choice (if you have cholesterol level problems, you better not eat in a traditional viennese restaurant). Recommended.

I visited Vienna over Easter with my husband and we ate at this traditional Austrian beisln twice during our stay. The menu is available in German, French and English and food is very traditional and absolutely delicious! Starters include salads, soups (beef bouillon with liver dumplings... mmm...) and smoked salmon. Main courses are dominated by meat - wiener schnitzel, goulash, pork cordon bleu and sweetbreads although there were a couple of fish options too. The staff are really friendly and spoke fluent English, good selection of beers and a great selection of Austrian wines too. Good for a drink even if you aren't tempted by the delicious food!

We visited Gustl Bauer twice and had on both occasions a very positive impression. The Headwaiter "Herr Erich" is from the old school and knows how to recommend and suggest, in this case an excellent Chardonnay from Burgenland called "Unplugged" - a bit a strange name for an Austrian Wine, but outstanding. The Wiener Kueche is always good especially when ordering the all-time favorites like - Cordon Bleu / Wr. Schnitzel / Tafelspitz - we will definitely be back

Every visit to Vienna my first outing is to visit Gustl Bauer to have one of my favourite dishes "Beuschl" which you probably only appreciate if you grew up in Austria. But all their food is great and very typical Viennese. The selection of wines and beers is superb as well. I am looking forward to my trip to Vienna in May 2013 to visit the restaurant for a great meal again!

I had the opportunity to invite some Viennese personal friends for dinner during the week at this restaurant (they chose it). it is located directly Am Hof (which hosts the first Christmas market to open in Vienna for Christmas). The restaurant inside is small but we sat in an enclosed wooden area which seems to have been added onto the terrace of the restaurant. The food and service were very good. The extensive menu covered all the local viennese dishes including excellent griessnockerl and frittaten soups, pork schnitzel and kalbsbrie served with excellent mixed or potato salads. The portions are big and the prices reasonable. Good Viennese fare in the 1st quarter of Vienna!
