“Battle Scars, but delightful.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

As the title suggests, the Hotel Allegro is in need of a makeover; paint, carpets and possibly even the bed are a bit worn but surprisingly this was not so distracting. A good friend stayed with me in one of the rooms for 4 nights in September 2013. The check in was delightful in that the desk staff was able to accommodate our special needs. The breakfast was one of the best with a large variety of cold cuts, cereals, yogurts and fruit and oh, on demand espresso coffee drinks. It was perfect. The location was also a bonus, 1 minute walk away from Sbahn, directly across the street. This provided easy access to the whole city and in 10 min we were in the city center. What makes this place worth it is the staff. Even though its run down a bit, the price point was about right, positive helpful staff made up for the difference.

Room Tip: It wouldn't hurt to take a look at a few rooms before accepting what you request. The rooms are...

Dear Harmonyeternal, thanks very much for your positive comments, we truly appreciate it. In regards to the worn down interior etc. yes we are going to renew the whole FF&E in the rooms by 2014, hence providing our guests a modern and more design-orientated atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming you soon again at the hotel. Many greetings from Vienna!

I spent 4 nights with a friend. At first sight it looks as it is in a bad shape, 20 meters from S Bahn station Matzleinsdorfer. But it is clean, with very polite personnel, ready to help you at all times. Very good quality of the breakfast. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the whole hotel needs renovation to improve. In general it is a hotel I would recommend. It might not be down town, but it definitely worth the money.

Dear Konstantinos P,

Thank you for your feedback and positive comments. You are absolutely right, the hotel needs refurbishment - and we are working on it. We are just about to finalize our plans, and start taking action toward refurbishing and relaunching this hotel as an urban-lifestyle-design type of hotel. When you come back next time, which we hope, you will be positively surprised. But do expect to pay a bit more as well... ;) Many greetings to Greece!

We came from Tallinn, Estonia, to visit Vienna. We stayed at the hotel Allegro in a double room for three nights in September 2013. The hotel’s location is good and it is situated at the square Matzleinsdorfer Platz, just opposite a number of underground tram stops. The tram lines in Vienna provide a convenient way to get around. For example, trams 6 and 18 go to the railway station Westbahnhof. Tram 1 drives to the hictorical center (incl. State Opera, Parliament Building and Town Hall). The hotel room was large, comfortable and clean as was the bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was pretty good, with a large selection to choose from. In my opinion it is a good and decent hotel. If we had to visit Vienna again, we would choose this hotel again.

I spent 4 nights in the hotel in a single room (business trip). it is a nice, clean, comfortable hotel. Staff were very kind and helpful. In Matzleinsdorferplatz you can find all transportation lines and it is very important. Good breakfast.

Room Tip: I received a room with a window to the main street and it was noisy.

This hotel is where you would really get great value for money. The quality of breakfast is really good. The coffee machine is of good quality as well. Lots of fruits, hams, eggs, and sausages laid on the table with lovely fresh breads, everything is there and I would say its an adequate breakfast.

The rooms are big and the hotel is accessible by metro going to the Old Town. Even though we had our own car but this is a hotel I would definitely recommend as the room quality is very good; from linens to its cleanliness factor.

Some rooms has toilets that are a little outdated but it maintains a decent standard. Honestly speaking the Reception Area is not too exciting. The lift, the paint is a little worn out, corridors are very blunt, there's no paintings that is visible that you see on any hotel. I would recommend this hotel if anybody is looking for a good deal in Vienna because of its big size rooms.

There is also a close by parking which is not part of the hotel but you have to walk few meters down the streets. Also there is a supermarket just 30 meters away. Location is not that bad.

It is definitely worth the money that you pay for because they are doing really good prices.

Room Tip: ask for large room on 2nd or 3 rd floor

Dear Guest, thank you for your positive comments, and feedback. In regards to the critical feedback, we are planning to face-lift the hotel within the next 6-18 months - this means especially we will do a maor upgrade in the design factro and the furniture in the rooms (FF&E), as well as re-create new public areas, lobby and even add a fitness center in the future. Next time you come as a guest (which we hope), you will experience a totally different hotel.

I booked to stay in this hotel but actually couldn't. They were having some problems with piping, but were very nice to find us a new place where to stay and we didn't have to pay anything as it was already done by the staff. Unfortunately I can't say anything about their rooms, or service or anything else but the staff was very helpful and polite. I put average in my overall rating because trip advisor requires it, but has nothing to do with the service this hotel offers. It wouldn't be fair from me to write anything about that since I didn't stay.I can say that the location is also very good, you walk along the Wiedner Hauptstrasse and in 20 min you are at Karlsplatz.

+Room spacious, Good WiFi in room, Air condition

-The parking place is too far from the hotel. Can not pay with card in hotel reception for parking fee. We spend the hotel one night, but we must pay two days parking fee. We could not get invoice from parking fee and hotel too. Some of the staff at the reception were not very polite-helpful. Breakfast was too poor.

Dear Tomtokes,

First of all than you for taking the time to wirte a comment in Tripadvisor. We appreciate all the feedback we receive and want to improve our services constantly.

We have just taken over this hotel as of July 2013 (you can see that in the small number of reviews), and strive to relaunch the hotel as one of the landmark properties in the area in the near future (12-18 months), so please stay tuned.

In regards to your comments about parking - it is possible to include the parking costs in your bill upon request. The parking garage is a public garage, and we have negotiated special conditions for our guests (EUR 11 for 24h instead of regular EUR 28 for 24h), which we give directly 1:1 further to our guests (without adding any commissions etc. to it). We do the best we can with the parking situation available in the near surroundings. Within our renovation we plan also to add some underground parking spaces to the hotel.

We apologize for not having been able to put the parking costs on your bill as you have requested. The staff at the reception has been informed about your complaint and the this should not be the case in the future anymore. We also thank you for giving us your feedback and would appreciate for better ratings in the future. All the best, Management
