“Good hotel, but relatively far from downtown Vienna”
Reviewed October 16, 2010

I have stayed at Holiday Inn Vienna with my wife for 2 nights in October 2010. The hotel is located in a quiet street not too far from the U4 Metro station.
We tried to walk to the city center - it is a pleasant 15 min walk either along a quite street or through one of the local attractions - Nachtmarkt. However, in rainy weather or after an all day walk around Vienna this walk back to the hotel may not a very good idea.
The breakfast at the hotel was abundant and had a good variety. There are some small cafes near the hotel, but I would recommend to have a dinner at one of the small restaurants at the Nachtmarkt.
The standard double room seemed rather small - hardly any space to turn around (for comparison, other Holiday Inns usually have 2 armchairs and a small tea table - there is no room to fit them in a double room at this hotel). Otherwise, Holiday Inn Vienna is very good hotel with new amenities and friendly staff.

I enjoyed excellent, professional and courteous service from all staff throughout my four day stay. A very generous buffet breakfast with an amazing selection of food was included with the price of my room. On the second day the server remembered I had ordered an omlette the morning before and asked if I would like the same that day! My room on the sixth floor was very large, the bed was excellent although the other furniture was older and is in need of replacement. The bathroom was beautiful and very clean. The hotel is conveniently located near a metro sation. I would definitly stay at this hotel again.

Although there was some very significant and expensive issues regarding my reservation, I enjoyed my stay. My online reservation came through to them in duplicate, and although I was clearly one person and had verbally confirmed a one room reservation over the phone, they insisted upon charging me for two rooms. It took two days and many conversations with 3 different staff members before they would acknowledge that I should not have to pay for the two rooms -- and since I was there for one week, this was a very large bill.
That being said, I loved the fact that it was a 10 minute walk to central Vienna. The tourist destinations were very accessible, but I stayed in a lovely and lively part of the city -- made it feel like I was living there and not just being a tourist. The room is what you would expect from a 4-star Holiday Inn -- clean, basic, comfortable, not extravagant -- it was actually perfect for this solo traveler, as I found it very comfortable and neither too large nor too small. Breakfast buffet is just OK.

i think this is the second time I've stayed at this Holiday Inn. When I arrived at 13.30 I was told the room wasn't available yet and I had to wait about 30 minutes.
The room was on the sixth floor - pretty charming, and quite big, but with a small old tube tv. The room seemed to be among their best ones, they don't have executive rooms. I was upgraded to this 6th floor, "best room they've got" - according to the lady at the reception.
I liked the soap in the bathroom and shower.
Fridge / Mini Bar doesn't seem to work very well - not really cold and was leaking like crazy. it holds 4 waterbottles and one bottle of orange juice.
Breakfast is 14 euros.
There's an ALDI (hoffer) at 10 minutes which would buy you a lot for 14 euros.
Internet is free for 15 minutes and can be extended all the time. You just need to log on again (bit annoying, but free is free).
The location is not bad. either walk from kettenbruekengasse to the hotel in 10 minutes or from the Wiener Hauptstrasse / corner Paulanergasse with tram line 1.
This line one runs from and to The Opera, Schottentor, etc. The opera is close to stefansplatz.
Nothing else interesting in this hotel. The weirdest thing is that after you pass reeception you have 3 stairs. In order to get to the elevators you need to walk past their bar and you have another 3 stairs. annoying when you have luggage (who doesn't when he stays at a hotel).

Picked hotel on basis of reviews and we were not disappointed.

The service throughout our stay was excellent from front desk to breakfast staff (who worked hard with the numbers present).

Room was fine with older style furniture but perfectly serviceable. Good Bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Only down point mentioned before was internet. It is only wireless at this hotel and I had major problems linking - this will be partly my fault but is not something I have ever encountered in the IHG chain.

Breakfast was good. fair selection and good quality. The opportunity to eat in the garden is excellent - very peaceful.

We found that the Vienna Transport System was excellent and as has been said the hotel is less than 5 mins from a Metro Station (the area around the station is also a huge market on a Saturday). We also walked into the Centre which only took 20 mins or so.

The vicinity of the hotel has a few pubs and eateries. There is an Asian "All you can Eat" place on the corner of the same block - quite good/cheap if you dont want to go far (we had had a long drive and a walk around the block took us there!).

The hotel has an underground car park (extra charge).

This mid class hotel is a mere 10mins. walk from metro station “Kettenbrückengasse” with direct train connection to the airport train. No hassle to walk with light luggage, otherwise there are taxis. There is a lot of restaurants, shops, supermarkets nearby the metro station as well as on the walk to the hotel.
The hotel itself is located in a residential area, with a tiny lobby which can be packed with groups.
My Superior room on the first floor had a little sofa, inroom safe, ironing safe, old fashioned tube TV and was quietly located towards inner court. The small bathroom was worn, like the rest of the hotel - (old) Holiday Inn level, therefore just ok. Breakfast buffet was plentiful, but packed restaurant.
As the value for money is good this hotel can be recommended for a short stay, but there are also other hotels in the city.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 2 nights on our first visit to Vienna. The rooms were spacious and very clean; the front of desk staff were particularly friendly and helpful; and the central garden terrace added charm. Self service laundry, supermarkets, restaurants and metro stops all close by. No free internet which was disappointing.
