Feeds off of the Orsen Wells movie with zest and gusto! Do not miss a showing a the nearby movie theatre of the movie or the city tour of the movie sights. What a hoot

As we arrived in Vienna for our post Xmas break around lunchtime on a Saturday, the Third Man Museum was our first port of call - as it's only open publicly between 2.00 and 6.00pm on Saturday afternoons. This is because it is a privately owned collection, exhibited by great enthusiasts Gerhard and Karen, who guide you through the exhibit aided only by one assistant. This makes for a wonderfully personal experience.

The collection is quite fascinating, not only for it's focus on every aspect of the film itself, but also for its detailed depiction of post war Vienna, often supported by video recorded, first hand testimony - very moving. But my personal favourite, returning to the movie, is the instant play jukebox where you can sample the myriad of versions of the evocative musical theme from the film. Kitsch proof indeed that nothing is sacrosanct!

All in all - the most enjoyable experience of the trip, and just around the corner from one of the best food markets ever sampled.

So glad that Rick Steves mentioned this museum in his guidebook, otherwise we would never have known about it. Also being open on Sat., does make it a place you must plan to visit.
It is not easy to find, but worth the trip. Amazing insight into Vienna, post WWII that other museums in Vienna choose to ignore. The enthusiasm of Gerhard and Karin makes visiting a delight.
