We stayed at the Hilton Vienna Danube for one week and our room was located on the 5th floor facing the Danube. On our recent European trip, we traveled from place to place by train and our goal was to select a hotel within walking distance of the train station. Hilton was the only hotel where we had to use public transportation in order to get to check in. It took us two metro trains to get from the train station to the Stadion metro stop, and from there we walked three long blocks to get to the Hilton Danube. The Stadion Station metro stop is located next to a shopping center that has bars, restaurants, and various stores including a supermarket; neat place to visit and shop.
Hilton Danube is located in a residential area consisting mainly of high rise apartment/condos buildings; and most of these buildings are surrounded by green space: parks, gardens, what have you; coupled with Vienna’s efficient public transportation, one would find this an ideal neighborhood to live.
Hilton fronts a roadway and a railroad, and the guests whose room faced these two traffic arteries, may experience traffic noise. We choose a room facing the Danube, simply because we wanted to watch river traffic moving up and down the river. Hilton has insulated windows in all their rooms so I don’t think traffic noise will jar you awake. At least we were never disturbed by outside noise.
Our room was always clean, we sleep soundly; and we though our room was a comfortable place to stay. Our breakfast buffet was quite good, and even though it seemed that the breakfast room was always crowded, we had no problem finding an empty table. The food was quickly replenished, and the staff was quick to respond to requests.
We brought our dinner food at neighborhood restaurants, and every one severed good meals. Again we liked the neighborhood that Hilton Danube was located and enjoyed walking the river walkway fronting the Danube.
We used public transportation to get around Vienna, and purchased, daily, our round trip senior tickets at the ticket store located in the Stadion Shopping Center.
Vienna’s public transit system has its own police force and one of their main duties, besides passenger’s safety, is to make sure that passengers do have valid tickets. On several occasions we were asked to show our tickets. And the police always seem to capture passengers who do not have tickets. If you do not have a valid ticket, and the police find you, you are required to get off the train and go through police interview, then given a citation ticket (where you are required to pay a find).
We are glad we stayed at the Hilton Danube, our room was comfortable, we had a clear view of the Danube, we thought the Hilton staff was exceptional and Hilton’s breakfast outstanding. Don’t be concerned about the distance from the hotel to other places of interest as you will find Vienna’s public transportation system quite reliable.
