“Excellent location for an extended vacation in Vienna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

I have to admit that I chose the Danube Hilton because it was cheaper than the downtown Hilton. As we approached Vienna I began to worry whether I’d made a wise decision. Were we going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere?
When we arrived at the hotel we were upgraded to a Danube view (Diamond honours) and had access to the executive lounge giving us breakfast and an evening snack if we wished. The room was excellent - bright and clean with a nice bathroom. We were pleased with all aspects of the Hilton and have nothing to complain about. I should note that the exercise room was particularly good with modern equipment, and the breakfasts and evening snacks in the lounge were above average.
However, I was wrong about one thing – the hotel’s location. Yes, it is out of the centre - in a charming suburb on the banks of the Danube. It’s great for walking; you can walk along the river, cross it , walk along the other bank, cross back on a different bridge, and return. This is all on the flat. It’s a cyclist’s and jogger’s paradise. After a little exploring we found that there are several nearby restaurants and bars. There’s even a reasonably large supermarket about 100 m from the front door. Once you find the optimum route to the metro you can get there in about two or three minutes. The metro is superb: clean, fast and safe. There aren’t even ticket barriers to worry about because they assume you have bought a ticket. You can also walk to the Prater area in about 20 minutes to see the impressive fair with its famous big wheel (featured in The Third Man).
You can’t beat the Vienna Danube as a place to base an extended trip to Vienna, because it gives you relatively easy access to the city via the metro and yet lets you wonder round a quiet riverside area to relax in the evenings and on your days off.

Room Tip: The Danube side is the best.

We stayed in Vienna for 2 nights finishing a trip to Ukraine before returning to North America. the hotel and the staff were first class. there should be no reasons for negative reviews whatsoever. the walk to the subway took about 5 minutes and was in a residential area. the subway ride to the historic district took no time whatsoever. We had a small issue with the toilet in our room and they had it fixed within minutes. the view of the river was fantastic and it was so nice to be able to relax looking at the river after a day of seeing the historic sites in Vienna. don't listen to the negative reviews, you will no be making a mistake by staying at this property. thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

We recently stayed at the hotel whilst attending a Robbie Williams concert. Hotel was in a great location near the stadium and on the banks of the Danube. The hotel was comfortable and friendly. My only complaint would be the lack of sun beds around the pool there was 4 sun beds so be quick otherwise you can sunbathe and relax on the concrete.

The food in the hotel was lovely so much so we ate in 2 nights instead of heading back into Vienna. We got a taxi in and out of town costing 15 euros each way but the metro is situated just outside and it is possible to walk into the centre.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the river and we were lucky enough to get one - very happy!

A brief summary of our (me and my girlfriend's) experience staying at this hotel:

- Upon check in, I had to pay a bond of 350 euros that was supposed to be redeposited in my account (less of some additional room charges, see below) on the same day I checked out. When I got home I noticed that the money had not been returned. I called the hotel and got to speak with someone in accounting who said the money would be returned to me that day. Six days and one reminder to accounting (who said they would look into the matter immediately) later, my money has still not been returned to me. I find this totally unacceptable, as the hotel has no legal right to withhold the amount. Do they do this to all their customers to gain a little extra interest on the money? Seems like I will eventually have to report the hotel to the police to get my money back. This is the reason I will never stay at this hotel again.
- There is an extra room charge of 20 euros per night if you want a room overlooking the Danube, a detail left out in the advertising.
- The hotel restaurant food is overpriced and not that good.
- Noise can be heard from the hallway straight through the hotel room door (as if there was none).
- No free hotel room wifi. If you want free wifi you have to sit in the hotel lobby (which is quite ridiculous).

+ The breakfasts are really good and the breakfast staff are very polite and courteous.
+ The rooms are very clean, fresh and spacious.
+ Outdoor pool. Indoor pools are boring.
+ Housekeeping is very good.
+ Bathtub in the room.

Dear cabr6879,

thank you for sharing your Feedback about the recent stay with us on TripAdvisor. We have already shared your comments with the responsible department heads to improve the Services mentioned that have not been to your satisfaction.
Please note that is is a common procedure at Hotels worldwide to pre-authorise a certain amount upon check in - depending on the lengt of the stay - to ensure the ability to settle the total folio upon check out. For further informaion on this procedure please ask the front desk during your next check in at any hotel worldwide.
Regarding our "PLUS" room category (river view) I would like to draw your attention to our website http://viennadanube.hilton.com where you can see the difference in view and rates in all listed room categories and offers. I would like to apologize for the hallway noise and the unavailable free wi-fi in the guestrooms. Hopefully the positive features mentioned about our hotel did compensate this lack of comfort.

Thank you once again for sharing your feedback and please contact me directly in case of further questions.

Kind Regards
Stefan Lippert

I stayed here on a conference trip to Vienna, held at the nearby Austria Centre Vienna. The hotel is quite near a stop on one of the new metro line extensions. Rooms are large and there is free wifi in the lobby and bar areas, or even the nice terrace outside. The hotel was also nice enough to keep our luggage for the first weekend, when we took a trip to Budapest prior to booking in. The whirlpool spa and sauna were also nice, although the signs in the fitness area are very confusing, and there are random doors making it possible to walk into the changing rooms of the opposite sex! I'll definitely stay here again if I get the chance.

We spent three nights here and were happy with our stay. We upgraded to a waterfront room (recommended) with great views over river. The rooms are spacious and modern. Would give it 3.5* but 4* given price we paid.

If you're looking into this hotel you'll see it's a way from the centre. It's generally a 5 to 10 min walk to Stadion and then two metros (one change) to the centre. About 20 to 30 minutes total. There's a shipping centre Stadion but not a lot to do in the area. We asked for recommendations nearby at the front desk and they told us to go back into town for dinner! l do recommend a run along the Danube or two :) and if you feel like a decent walk go to the Danube river island in the middle.

WiFi is free in public places otherwise ?20day (!) or free for Hilton gold etc. Breakfast was excellent with great selection. Look around for specials on rates; you expect to pay lower for out of town and it's medium Hilton quality.

We stopped two nights at the Hilton Danube and enjoyed our stay, our room and bathroom were spacious and quiet. The staff were very helpful even helping with an airline check in and seat allocation prior to departure.Breakfast was excellent and the location on the banks of the Danube with a large terrace and outdoor restaurant was very enjoyable.
We would be happy to stay there again.
