We book this hotel as it is near to Messe Wien about 15mins walk or 1 station away. To go to town required a 10 mins walk to Stadion centre and the stadion station. It is conventient to travel by public transport at Vienna. Just across the bridge from Hilton is a supermarket where you can get your daily supply of goercery. The rooms are big but old looking, even the pool & the gym/ jacuzzi looks tired. The corridor looks groomy too.
However, the tranquility of Danube river compliment the hotel, bringing in the sense of peace.

Room Tip: rooms that face the danube river are quieter.

My first impression on arriving at the hotel was mixed. You reach it via a dedicated bridge which spans the dual carriagway and railway line (which was not encouraging) and the Handelskai area is fairly drab and lifeless. To be clear: this hotel is not in the centre of Vienna, but the location on the bank of the Danube should be adequate compensation.

The reception area seemed quite bland, but the staff were very friendly and helpful as I checked in. My room was perfectly pleasant and a decent size but a little underwhelming. It had a splendid view over the Danube, but had a somewhat annoying step as one approached the window. I found the tutonic-style room doors which open outwards into the corridor a little unnerving and also discovered that they had very poor sound insulation. Quite a lot of noise from the corridor penetrated into the room. The bathroom was very clean and fresh but was otherwise unexceptional.

After this mixed initial impression, I found the hotel grew on me. The executive lounge on the top floor was very pleasant with good views, and the large terrace was a delightful place to sit with a drink taking in the riverside ambience. There is a small swimming pool - I didn't venture in, but plenty of other people seemed to enjoy it!

Overall I enjoyed this hotel. It's position away from the centre of the city means it feels slightly more relaxing and peaceful and the staff were consistently helpful and friendly.

The Hilton Danube is a very nice hotel located, as the name implies, on the Danube river. As such, it is outside the heart of Vienna, and going downtown by taxi takes 10 minutes off-peak, but up to 20 or more during peak hour traffic.
I booked a junior suite, and the room was really good: spacious, with great views on the river, large bathroom. I had access to the Club Lounge, very nice, where I also had breakfast and the usual evening snacks and drinks.
So why not 5 stars? Because:
a. they have an obsolete way to access Internet, via a daily code (if you get the room package which includes Internet like I did). I am strong in saying that, today, Internet connection in 5 stars hotels should be superfast, supercheap (or free, especially when room rates are high) and supereasy. End of story. The connection at evenings was very slow
b. the lounge room did not have any English newspapers in the morning, for breakfast, or for what I could see for the whole day
c. the gym room was very small for such a hotel, with few equipment, and the TV connected to the equipment was not working, in none of the equipment

So good hotel, and great room, but issues such as the ones above to not grant a 5 stars status

Room Tip: My room, 632, was a very nice and spacious junior suite

We stayed at the hotel twice during May and we agree that whenever we return to Vienna this will be our hotel of choice-it was a wonderful experience. We stayed in a riverview room which was both large and modern. It had a lovely view across the Danube and is a great value-for-money upgrade from the standard room. It was an oasis of peacefulness. We also used the very well maintained and equipped hotel gym.

The staff from Reception to Bar Area/Restaurant to Cleaning Services were exceptional whether it be their politenesss, friendly smile or commitment to assist in whatever they could-a great team overall!

Whilst we normally stay in hotels in the heart of town we had no issues with the hotel location which is an easy few minutes flat street walk to the U-Bahn station(Stadion) located next to a good size shopping centre. The quick trip into town is completed on a fast, inexpensive and very modern train service. The train system is also great in that its various subway stations deliver you very close to many of the major attractions from the museums quarter to the heart of city centre and the main cathedral.

Being able to return to the hotel and its very tranquil location overlooking the Danube river with its long board walk is a wonderful end to a busy day of sightseeing.

A great hotel and we look foward to our next stay.

I've stayed at the Hilton Vienna Danube on May 2012 for two nights as part of a business trip to Vienna. I've stayed in an Executive Room (with view to the Danube) which was very big and convenient and the breakfast was varied and tasty, as you can espect from Hilton.

I will say it's a very good hotel for groups, large families who need big rooms and business men who come to a do some meetings in the city and wants to be close to the airport.

The Hotel is quite far from the city center and you need to take a car, taxi or metro everytime you want to go out, so if you are coming to Vienna for tourism I'm not sure its a good choice.

I would strongly reccomend this hotel for business trips to Wien.
Plus: recently renovated, kind and efficient staff, nice lounge, very quite and large rooms, possibility to go for a run along the Danube river, excellent price-quality ratio.
Minus: not centrally located

I am normally someone who insists on being walking distance from everything, especially a selection of restaurants and access to tourist attractions. But we gave Hilton Vienna Danube a try, mostly influenced by the availability of rooms suitable for a family of four, good reviews and acceptable rate (179 EUR a night including breakfast).

I'll get to the usual selection of topics below, but let's tackle that location issue first: You are a 35 EUR ride from the airport and it takes about 20 min, so no issues there. The hotel is situated on the banks of the Danube near to a mostly residential area. It's a 5 minute walk to the U-Bahn station (Stadion) and from there about 4-5 stops to the center of the city with all the sights which is really no big deal, so we actually found it to be very workable. Having said that we didn't always bother going back into town for dinner - more below.

BTW the U-Bahn is very efficient, and the stations very clean and safe. The trains come every 5 minutes, and a 72-hour ticket is 16.50 EUR (ticket machines are multi-language and accept credit cards).

Our reception at the hotel was excellent. Lana on the front desk made us feel very welcome, and walked us through all sorts of tourist advice. In fact, service overall was typically warm and friendly.

The rooms are fairly large and (important for us) contain two queen beds. The bathroom we had (room 658) was newly renovated and pleasant. Ask for a room on the river side since the view on the other side of the hotel is only of a boring road. An absolute must is the 10 EUR upgrade to the executive floor which includes access to the executive lounge:

The lounge was excellent with drinks (including beer, wine and spirits), snacks and cake in the afternoon, even hot food in the evening. Even a few sodas from the minibar would have cost that 10 EUR. We found it a relaxing and comfortable place to hang out, with discreet but friendly and attentive service. And it is easy enough to make this your dinner stop if you have walked loads during the day and don't fancy headed back into town.

Breakfast buffet is a decent spread although it can get a bit busy if tour groups are there. Be sure to ask the servers if you want a cappuccino, latte macchiato etc or eggs made to order - it's not made obvious that you can do this.

Wifi was not free. The front office told us 22 EUR a day (!) or 27 EUR a day (!!) for "business package" to support multiple devices (and higher-speed)? Luckily it turned out that it was just 9 EUR for 24 hours when my teenage sons logged on. Still - this is something that needs addressing. The exec lounge has a single internet-enabled PC and a printer which can be handy (if not in use). This is free of charge.

Overall - we had a great time and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Pay the 10 EUR extra for the executive floor. Ask for the Danube side for views of the river.
