“Delicious! ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

I wanted a change from meat, potato and bread based dishes and my hostel recommended Orient Occident and I wasn't disappointed!

I had the Levantine Pan and it was superb!
A fresh mix of Mediterranean vegetables and grilled chicken, served with some rice and potato.

A very cool place with ample food and drinks and great service.

Would definitely come back again.

“Once Was Great, Now Just OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Orient Occident is a trendy restaurant in the vibrant Naschmarkt. It is one of many restaurants along the market stretch located closer to the Kettenbrückengasse end of the market than the Karlsplatz end. It serves primarily Middle Easter/Turkish and Austrian dishes as well as a traditional array of local beers and wines.

In the summer the outside seating is very popular and expands the capacity significantly. The heating lamps really are not enough to keep outside seating attractive when the weather turns and the capacity shrinks.

Whether outside or in, Orient Occident is a cool place. Like many of the spots in the Naschmarkt it is a hangout rather than just a restaurant.

Service is fine. The staff always seem a bit busy but are perfectly reasonable to deal with. Cleanliness is fine, the unisex toilets are a bit odd.

However, overall the place just isn't as good as it once was. Orient Occident was once the best place around offering interesting dishes and looking really good. It has undergone a facelift since this patron first visited a few years ago. The effect has been to whitewash some of the atmosphere and to take out some of the best dishes on the menu.

For a vegetarian Orient Occident was a gem, dishes like the Melanzani Curry and the Levantinische Gemüsepfanne were excellent. They've gone now to be replaced by low quality falafel dishes, dumbing down the offerings.

The memory of the time when this place was great makes it less attractive to visit nowadays. It is still a decent place just not the gem it used to be.

“Good food and nice staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

We were tired of walking and looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't fish only and found this little restaurant. It's a mixture between Turkish food and Austrian food. The atmosphere is nice and the food is good. The staff was very nice. They have a separate smoking area as well as outdoor seating.

“A Late Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

On the 17th June after we had come back into wien so I could photograph Stephansdom and do a souveniour shop for family we decided to stop in and have a bite to eat. As we were heading off to Italy the next day and it was a very early flight. We decided on the turkish lentil soup - which we both enjoyed and the had a levantine pan. This consisted of Mediterrean vegetables, grilled chicken breast with rice.

The soup was really tasty and the chicken was melt in your mouth moist - one of the best we have had. If you get the opportunity and are passing the Naschmarkt call into the Orient Occident. www.orientoccident.at you will enjoy.

“A favorite on Naschmarkt”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

The Orient & Occident is a favorite on the Naschmarkt due to quick service, a small but tempting menu, good drinks, and excellent food. Our signature dish there is the big starter platter ("Vorspeisenplatte"), which the restaurant has a nice habit of consistently changing. Hummus is always included, and it is very nice indeed.
