The Vienna 1900 exhibit is an excellent display of art and culture from 1900 through WWII. This museum is excellently designed, spacious, well lit, air conditioned, and well curated. This was my favorite museum in Vienna!

The Leopold Museum lays hidden in the courtyard of the Museum Quartier. The large, cool, modern building holds a very rich collection of Vienna's 1900-Period art.
At the time, Vienna was a vibrant center of art absolutely comparable to Paris, but lesser known: Music, of course, plus architecture, painting, sculpture, and the performing arts. Many artists were avant-garde, like Tobias Klimt, Egon Schiele, Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann, and many more.
For younger people, who are tired of "conventional classic art", the Leopold Museum is a ***treasure trove. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day to complete our visit!
Enjoy!
I didn't know much about Klimt (beyond the sparkly gold paintings) or Schiele, but we were encouraged to visit this modern, limestone block of a place in the Museumquartier in order to see the exhibition 'Vienna 1900'. If I tell you we went in at 11am and left at 6pm, you will get the idea - quite rightly - that we were fascinated. And we didn't even see the whole exhibition! (Did stop for lunch and coffee/cakes though - the latter is kind of obligatory in Vienna.) We completely wore out the batteries on our acoustiguides, as we were immersed in the art, politics and times of the turn of the last century in this vibrant city. It was an eye-opening look at the
artistic revolution that happened in this part of Europe. So many nationalities came together, at a pivotal time in world history, to create art, architecture and new ways of thinking. The exhibition provides a fascinating contextual background to an amazing collection of paintings. The period covered is on the modern edge of my taste, but it was exhilarating and captivating. Such a refreshing thing to discover! (Coffee is good, too.)
Went there only for their collection of Schiele and it exceeded my expectation. So many other fantastic pieces
i really dont know why i went there, may be its tuesday and other museums were closed. i just walked around and came out, not that I hate Art but i could not fine this one to be half way in the league of Louvre museum
I went because my partner likes Klimt. It turned out the works I'd become used to weren't the only style that he'd painted in. Good to get a bit more background on his works.
