Owner description: The Leopold Museum is a unique treasure-house of Viennese Jugendstil, the Wiener Werkstätte and Expressionism. It is the most-visited museum of the city's hottest cultural site, the MuseumsQuartier, and it houses the most significant and largest Egon Schiele collection in the world, as well as masterworks by Secession founder Gustav Klimt. Tip: The museum's panorama windows offer a wonderful view of central Vienna with Maria Theresa Square and the Hofburg Palace.

The Leopold has a strong collection of Austrian masters (especially Schiele, some Klimt and some wonderful lesser known, but incredibly talented painters). In addition to the wonderful paintings, the text and annotations are unusually well-done and highly informative, without being the least bit boring. This museum is a special treat amongst the riches of Viennese art offerings.

We visited during the "Lang Nacht der Museen".
I don't remember having seen either Klimt or Schiel's original paintings before, and it was a treat.
It has a great deal of their artworks, and I am really happy of having come by.

Going to this museum was not on my original itinerary for visiting Vienna, but I am so glad that I added it! I got the audio guide and learned quite a bit about work by Klimt, Schiele, but also their contemporaries. The guide made a difference although there is also quite a bit of text on the walls to guide visitors.

The Schiele collection wasn't exactly what I expected, but I enjoyed it regardless. There were quite a few paintings of buildings and urban landscapes. It taught me about aspects of this artist's work previously unfamiliar to me. I got a lot out of this visit and highly recommend the museum.

Passion and grace. A wondrous collection of art that stands on its own merits, also displayed in context of the history of Vienna. That's about all I'll add to the other positive reviews of the Leopold. It's about the only good reason to visit the Museumsquartier. A couple things though- Hang on to your ticket, as you can't enter (or leave- yes really) the washrooms here without it. Also, if like me you prefer to explore a museum's works chronologically, you'd start with the highest numbered rooms on the top floor and work your way down.

This gallery has a wonderful retrospective of Egon Schiele's work . The gallery space is fantastic and the pieces are in chronological order, giving an insight into the artists stylistic development. The gallery is home to a number of other Austrian expressionist pieces and artists of the Vienna Succession.
