This hotel is well positioned very close to the centre of Vienna. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. The toilet was very functional and clean. The rooms were the right size.
The only complaint I have is with the tv channel selection-- the only english channels was 2 news channels, that repeat the same old news every half hour. There is pay tv for english movies-- that would have been quite an innovation in the 1980's, but today with satelite tv, is unacceptable to have a 4 star hotel expecting you to pay for english speaking movies.

After comparing the high prices charged for hotels in this beautiful city, I have no regrets about choosing the Mercure. The hotel website price was reasonable and the breakfasts were full and well-serviced. I found the rooms quite large and certainly comfortable with good internet connection as well as access to a free computer downstairs. When we were unable to get to breakfast one morning due to an early rise to catch the train to Budapest, the hotel gladly provided us with a packed lunch. A free welcome drink was provided on arrival and the reception was always helpful and available. I particularly liked ther hotel's location, only a five minute walk to the underground station and a ten to fifteen minute walk to the cathedral. We spent four nights here and found nothing to complain about! I would also warmly recommend the restaurant Mini; it was the best meal of the trip!

Dear Sir or Madam,

thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay at our hotel Mercure Wien City. We are sad to hear that we were not able to meet your expectations. The entire Mercure team tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We also offer newly renovated Privilege rooms if you do not like the interior of the standard category. Thank you for the friendly words about the quality of the breakfast.
The hotel location is in walking distance to one of the main subwaystations "Schwedenplatz" and as you mentioned only 10-15 min per foot to the city center.

You know Vienna is always worth to visit and we would be happy to welcome you again to show you our spirit: "Mercure-let good things happen".

Best regards,

Typical Accor-hotel... you know what you will get when you book it.
Good service, good room, good bathroom, everything functional, warm and running... decent and good.
Quiet location at walking distance from the city centre.
No negatives... but also nothing really outstanding.
A good-value place for a functional (i.e. only-sleep-in-the-hotel) stay in Vienna.

I always preface my reviews this way: I stay over 100 nights a year in hotels, and I've stayed in over 1,000 hotels. I've stayed in everything from 5 star hotels to boutiques and have a good baseline for what a hotel should be.

Pro's: Great location, right in the heart of the city with a lot to do in walking distance. The hotel staff were nice and the room was ok.

Con's: The hallways were dark and dirty in need of cleaning and general maintenance. The same goes for the rooms. There were sort of clean, but the carpets felt disgusting and I didn't dare walk barefoot. The beds weren't amazing and being here multiple nights, I didn't sleep good. The rooms were also tiny, which I'm sure is the norm in this area. The breakfast itself was ok, but the staff essentially ignored you. It was very difficult to get service (coffee) and there were dirty tables everywhere. It didn't seem especially busy either morning, more that I was just ignored?

In summary, I wouldn't stay here again. There are better budget hotels if that's what you're looking for. Spend a little more and stay somewhere else
