We stayed at Hotel de France during our 3-day trip to Vienna to celebrate my birthday.
Not only did the kind receptionist immediately notice my birthday, but she also gave us an upgrade to a beautiful suite and had a nice birthday cake put in the room for me. Besides this kind gestures, the hotel is also very well located, right in front of a U-Bahn and a metro station. You can also easily walk to the city center in 15 minutes. The hotel is in a beautiful building with an impressive staircase which is nicely lit at night. The breakfast was by far the best one I ever had, with lots of different possibilities. As the metro and U-Bahn are nearby, you hear them a bit when you're in the room, but it's not really disturbing.

Hotel de France is on the less crowded part of the Vienna Ringstrasse near the Rathaus / Townhall. Attractions are on walking distance or can easily be visited by tramway or underground.
The hotel itself has some of the typical Vienna grandeur. Breakfast is very good. Rooms are stylish.

Room Tip: Junior suites and suites on a higher floor are worth the money, because they are beautiful and have...

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your feedback. We are very well aware of our good location, but I have loved to read how you have put it: ‘the less crowded part of the Vienna Ringstrasse’ –
I will keep that in mind for future references.
Hope to welcome you to the Hotel de France soon again, I remain with best regards,

This 5 star hotel is near the city centre and the university and it is in front of many tram stops and the underground. Perfect position to visit the city for some days. Moreover, price/quality is great, rooms are really clean, big and comfortable. Staff is kind and breakfast is good with all the caracteristics of an international menu. This is a first class choice for visitors in Vienna.

We stayed at the Hotel de France on the end of December. In our opinion, the hotel is quite amazing. We enjoyed our stay very much. We booked a double superior room via Booking.com. The price was 600 euros for 5 nights, including breakfast, much cheaper than other hotels in innere stadt area of Vienna. The room we stayed in (no.308) was actually much bigger and better equiped than what was described in Booking.com. WE think it is actually bigger than other superior rooms (superior is the lowest and cheapest grade of rooms in this hotel; there are also deluxe rooms and junior suites), owing to its position at the end of the corridor. The room has a big and nice bathroom, with pampering bathrobs. There are two closets, a table on each side of the bad (the bad was actually not a double, but two single beds put together), a sitting area with a sofa and a table, a desk, an LCD TV, a minibar and a safe. There is a free in the room, you only have to take a new username & password from the reception every 24 hours. The room and bathroom were very clean. The room has big windows (facing the Schottentring with a nice view). The heating system was mentioned many times in reviews about this hotel: you cannot control it, it's true, and once or twice we felt that the room was a little bit to hot, but most of the it was really nice and warm and you could wear light clothes.
Breakfast is great, with an execptionally wide variety of food and drinks.
The staff - receptionists, bell boys, maids, waiters, all were very nice and helpful.
The hotel has an old European charm, while being at the same time very comfortable and afordable.
And of course, last but not least: super location - we walked everywhere, only took the metro once (to Schonbrunn Palace) in 6 days. A metro station (UBan, line 2) is located 20 meters from the hotel.
To some it up: highly recomended hotel in a beautiful city.

Room Tip: Room 308 is very large, bigger that other superior rooms.

Very convenient location on the ring. 10-15 min walk from the very center of old city. Huge room for incredibly low price of $175.00! And on the top of it, excellent service! We came in around 12:30 pm and room was ready. On departure day they let us use a storage room for 6 hours at no charge. What else can one expect?

Thank andrmat

Close to so many things on our list of places to see and not too much of a walk for the old folks. The rooms were large and comfortable with room to spread out. Hotel staff were in general, helpful and friendly. We skipped the overpriced breakfast (I believe it was 56 euros for two) in favor of walking to the Cafe Central for an outstanding breakfast. The internet connection was a serious problem when we tried to print boarding passes. It is expensive and not very reliable. Other than those things mentioned, I would recommend it without hesitation.

Dear Guest!

Thank you for your feedback and your recommendation. You are right, all the famous sights such as St. Stephans Cathedral, the old Town Hall, Burgtheather, Hofburg etc.. and of course the shopping areas Kärnter Strasse and Graben are within walking distance. I am sorry that you did not take up our special breakfast offer for EUR 30,00 for two persons, available right upon check-in, since we very often receive very positive comments about the buffet breakfast.

We are looking forward to welcome you again. Kindest regards,
Michael Pohn, General Manager

The location is perfect for walking Vienna and experiencing the culture, history and charms of the city. The hotel is in need of refurbishing -- rooms are tired and poorly decorated, internet is cumbersome, morning in-room coffee (something important to me!) is deplorable. On the positive side -- the staff was very cordial and helpful, food was good (not great) but acceptable, and the hotel is quiet. I would consider Hotel de France to be a 3 Star.

I am rather disappointed that you consider the Hotel de France a 3 star hotel only - but of course everyone is entitled to an opinion.....
