“Beautiful old hotel...no air conditioning!”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

This hotel is a beautiful example of an old European hotel and is located in a great area close to lots of things to see and do. However, the week we were there was very, very hot even though the weather predictions before arrival said it would not be hot. The hotel staff were very kind and offered 2 fans, but it did not help. The second night they offered a air conditioned room in their new wing. They told us not to turn off the air when we left for the day because the room would get too hot and would not be able to cool off. Unfortunately,, the maid came in while we were gone and shut it off! The room cost a lot more and we still did not have air conditioned temperature! We also had 2 huge cock roaches in the room which we found at 1 am! If not for the heat and roaches though, we really did like the hotel. I give it a 3.5. Staff could not have been kinder and even helped us with the parking since this area is not easy to find it.

Room Tip: When booking in the summer, ask for the unknown new wing that has air conditioning! Most people don...

Arrived at this hotel for 2 nights as a party of 4. The accommodation is on a corner which is adjacent to the major shopping strip in Vienna, and about 200 metres to the St.Stephens Cathedral. Upon arrival the staff spoke pleasantly in English and afforded directions to various city attractions. Their customer service couldn't be any better. The two lifts were old, and can occupy up to four in tight circumstances, hence the luggage was needed to be delivered separately by the bell hop. The room was of good size and very clean. The mattress was firm and pillows comfortable. The location was central, as I indicated to shopping areas, as well as a ten minute walk to major attractions and about 20 minute walk to a theatre where we had purchased tickets to a concert from a street vendor. The hotel, I believe was value for money and despite the lift situation was a good investment for our short stay.

I did not enjoy my one night stay in this hotel. Firstly there was no air conditioning in the room which is not great when it is 24 degrees outside! A dirty big fan was provided. The noise from the street outside all night kept me awake (not the hotels fault). Staff were nice and friendly but overall experience probably due to lack of sleep was not great. Could also do with an iron in the room. Unfortunately I will not be returning any time soon.

I stayed here for 3 days for work, the booking was made by conference organisers.

The location is extremely central, however I do not believe the hotel can be described as 4 star, and can justify the high prices.

My room was not clean, but was relatively spacious as was the ensuite bathroom. The bed was simply two single beds pushed together, complete with separate bedding. The TV was old and had extremely fuzzy reception. The room got pretty hot (as others have commented) but the old windows were difficult to leave open without them banging all night.

The central location makes it very noise through the night and early in the morning.

The breakfast selection was fine- but it was impossible to order a coffee from the staff as they were nowhere to be seen. On the second day the hotel was clearly overwhelmed by visitors and I couldn't even find any cutlery or glasses ( I had to search empty tables for the remaining few items of clean cutlery and had to take a glass from behind the bar).

Most of the hotel staff were friendly, but not all. I would have appreciated being told that I was paying a 300 euro deposit upon arrival rather than just being asked for my credit card.

Unfortunately the staff didn't seem to be able to manage and this greatly affected the customer service provided. Wouldn't recommend.

Room Tip: Check a few rooms and take your pick of the best- I wish I had done.

This hotel far exceeded our expectations - the rooms are large and clean. No air conditioning, but they provided a fan which was perfect to keep us cool in August. The bathroom was newly updated and was very big. Location couldnt be better - its right on Stefansplatz - which is where you want to be if you're touring around. I would absolutely stay here again. We didnt pay for breakfast because it seemed a little pricey, but there are tons of bakeries and cafes around the hotel.

We stayed at the Astoria for 3 nights from 18th August. It is in a brilliant location for getting around Vienna and ideal for shopping and eating. The room we had was very spacious and had a huge bathroom with bath and overhead shower. It was clean and comfortable and very good value. The breakfast was substantial and I think catered for just about everyone - there was scrambled egg, bacon, frankfurters, yogurts, fresh fruit, fruit salad, ham, cheese, croisants, cakes, bread etc. Sadly there was no bar open in the evening but there were 3 or 4 places very very close by where you could get a drink and/or eat in evenings. Although the area was quite busy during the day and into the night, it certainly didn't spoil our sleep and although we had the windows open we weren't disturbed at all. There is no air conditioning but we did have a fan and this helped. The staff were most courteous and helpful and everything about the hotel was clean and tidy. I would be happy to recommend this hotel and would certainly go back there if we were in Vienna again.

Room Tip: We had room 005 which is an executive room. Very spacious and quiet.

We were pleased when the cab dropped us off to find that we were in such a fantastic location. The room is large in comparison to some we recently stayed in in Germany and it is very clean and comfortable. Three minor negatives, no air con (32 degrees today), no tea and coffee making facilities and the fridge is warm at its best.

I would recommend it to others and would be happy to return.value for money.
