Family run hotel, many of the staff has been there for a long time, they are extreemely professional, helpful and most friendly. The rooms are amazing that are traditional, but some rooms have been made too modern for my liking... Lovely cosy drinking bar.Lounge area is fantastic great decor and paintings. The dinning experience is un forgetable food most excellant to a very high standard. Great location opposite the opera house and near shops etc transport on your doorstep...lots of art to view........This Historic hotel has had many of the most famous heads of states and artists around the world stay.....so that tells you everything,,,dont forget to have coffee and Sacher torte downstairs.

Room Tip: Ask to inspect other rooms that may suite your taste better....staff will accomodate

We thought long and hard before booking here and in truth were originally booked at The Ritz Carlton. But because of their smoking policy (permitted in the main bar) we cancelled and eventually picked The Sacher - despite the higher room rate.
Hotels need to learn that the days of allowing your guests to be smoked like a kipper because of liberal smoking policies are over and will eventually result in business moving away to fine establishments like The Sacher Hotel. This hotel is perfect in every regard; the level of personal service, the attention to detail, the supmtuous bedding in each room, the delicious choice at breakfast, the fine additional touches that make the stay just that little bit more special. Yes - there is a smoking room, but it is NOT the fantastic Blue Bar in the hotel (where the cocktails and service are superb) and the hotel makes sure that there is no smoking in any of the public areas.
Yes this is high end at high end prices, but the location couldn't be better and neither could the experience of the two days we visited. - Treat yourself or someone you care about, they'll love you for it.

In January, I stayed at the Sacher for four days for the fourth time and my room was on the fourth floor. The lounge/lobby is the same elegant, atmospheric drawing room--a great place to sit and have a cup of tea. Nothing else in the world looks like this room. The breakfast rooms are beautiful and equally elegant and the breakfast buffet one of the best. A nice, cozy bar with helpful attendants. Lovely bedroom and bathroom. Good Wi-Fi everywhere and complimentary computer in room next to the spa. And the concierge always manages to get me good tickets to the Vienna Philharmonic and the opera. I email ahead of time and the tickets are always waiting for me. The Opera house is across and the street and I can walk to the Musikverein--as well as everywhere else in the Inner Ring. This is a great hotel.

We had a very special birthday to celebrate and chose to do it at this hotel as we had such a fabulous time back in 2009 for a special wedding anniversary. We took the car pick up option from the airport and it was smooth sailing from the time we walked through arrivals all the way to the hotel, once at the hotel our bags were whisked away and you are greeted so warmly by the doorman and porter onto reception where the lovely Stephanie checked us in with the surprise of a room upgrade! Check-in was speedily done and we were escorted by Stephanie who gave us a little tour to remind us of what was available to us throughout the hotel. On our last trip we stayed on the second floor and loved the décor - as the lift opened on the second floor we could see it had been redecorated - it was just beautiful they have managed to keep the old classical feel but with a modern twist! The room itself was gorgeous beautifully appointed with a huge King-size bed and very good use of mirrors throughout gave the room a spacious airy feeling - my favourite was the huge crystal chandelier hanging over the bed! The room colours were very similar to the hallway beautiful silvers, creams and taupe giving a restful ambiance. The bathroom was huge all done in marble with deep bath, separate shower(very powerful) and double sink with lots of the gorgeous sacher spa chocolate products (replenished generously throughout our stay). Bathrobes and slippers were left out for our use and on the room table some lovely treats - flowers, chocolates fruit and some little sacher torte cubes. We had two large opening windows overlooking the Opera House (Yay!) the glazing and extra inner doors make for a soundproofed room which gave an excellent nights sleep even though the streets below were busy! We loved the breakfast buffet served until 11.00 on weekends and 10.30 during the week - beautiful array of food with a chef to cook your hot items to your liking. My favourite breakfast item was the slice of sacher torte with a glass of champagne - to celebrate each day! We used the spa every day of our stay and it was the perfect balm after a long day sightseeing - beautifully kept with a lovely relaxation area with herbal teas, herbal waters along with fruit and nuts served! We dined in both restaurants (separate reviews to follow) and loved the food and ambience with a second to none service! We also enjoyed the Blue Bar where a huge array of drinks are available with some expert help from the bar staff we got to try some excellent Austrian wines - I recommend asking the staff for help as they are very knowledgeable and we got to try wines we may not have otherwise have tried. The hotel staff are a credit to whatever training they are provided with as you get such a warm and friendly service from every one of the staff - every time we met Stephanie who checked us in she remembered us by name and always enquired how our stay was going. The doormen give you a lovely send-off as you leave each day and a very warm welcome back each evening. We were checked out by the beautiful Angelique (who checked us in on our first visit to this hotel) she was efficient and charming as ever and I understand she will be leaving to take up the general manager post in the Sacher Hotel Salzburg - why am I not surprised - such an asset to any team! I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and hope to get back some day.

Room Tip: If you have a preference for any particular type of room the staff are very happy to help so just e-mail the hotel at the time you book and they will certainly do all they can to help

Sacher is one of the finest hotel in Europe and I shall say in the world. It's not only an historical place but also a very innovative one, in an interesting way : the traditions are here at their best... It's especially true in the way rooms are decorated and fully silent. We could hardly hear the noise of the street (but stayed at the first floor!) and we had two wonderful nights. So many palaces are so noisy that you can't sleep after 8:00!!
It is also very innovative with breakfast : in fact it's a brunch served until 11:30... never seen that before, anywhere else. And it's delicious.
Last but not least, there is a room dedicated to smokers, as in ancient times... no need to smoke outside with the portier : so good!
And guess what, service is perfect. WORTH the money you will spend there!

Room Tip: Book the restaurant as soon as arriving, it's hard to get a table...
