“Great value, even better location!”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Ironically, when I first booked this accommodation, I thought I was actually booking the Wombat's hostel across the street from Wien Westbahnhof. A little surprised when I realized that THIS hostel was located out by the Nashtmarkt - about five metro stops and a train change away.

Turns out this Wombat's hostel is in a very hip location, most notably, directly across the street from what must be one of the coolest food markets in ALL of Europe. The hostel, itself, is very clean, featuring the typical 'rent a bunk in a big room' accommodations as well as more hotel-like rooms for an amazingly reasonable price. Very convenient to the U-Bahn (less than 5 minutes) but you can actually walk to Stephansplatz in about 20 minutes. Breakfast was a bit sparse, but completely adequate by youth hostel standards. Every room has a private bath, and towels can be had for the asking. Difficult to justify the extra 300 euro for the privilege of staying in some name-brand hotel. And if you're a foodie, the location simply can NOT be beat!

Room Tip: Pay extra to get a hotel type room on one of the upper floors!

We had the pleasure of staying here for 3 nights in september,we had a double room on the 2nd floor. The room was fab we had a lovely big bathroom with a power shower a spacious room a really comfy bed and a fan it was perfectly clean. We also got a token for a free drink each in the hostel bar! It was exactly what we needed.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, all speak english and you can lend pretty much anything from reception from hairdryers to a guide book to pretty much anywhere in the world! The location of the hostel is great,it is directly opposite the market which is a great place to grab a cheap and authentic bite to eat and it a 10 minute walk from the centre of Vienna and all the attractions there. The breakfast is cheap at 3.80 euros and filling there is all kinds of cereals, juices, ham, cheese, eggs different breads and the way the breakfast room is set out make it really easy to interact with other travellers.
There is free wifi in the reception and also computers you can use (50 cents for 20mins).The Wombar was a fab bar a great place to spend some time, the staff were fab in there really friendly, fun atmosphere the drinks were really cheap too, they also did some meals in there too (though we didnt try it out) It felt really secure with swipe cards to get into each corridor and no noise at night as they have a policy on quiet around the bedrooms from 10pm which people respected. All in all a fantastic place to stay probarbly the best hostel i have ever stayed in.Wouldnt hesitate to reccomend to everyone and i would now always checked if a city has a wombats! :)

Almost everything was really good, but there was one recepcionist (Sue) totally rude and unpolite to a simple and short question I asked her while she was looking something on the computer screen. It seems she can't do two things at the same time. The rest of the receptionists were great and they also gave me good advices of a day trip to Slovakia.
Bedrooms and pillows were great, many power outlets and even a light in each bed. Shower inside the room, comfortable, and the lockers were the best I have ever tried, they just open and close with the same key card you use to enter the room. No need to bring your own lock.
Big supermarket in the same block, and the kitchen is big and comfortable.
If this hostel had wifi also in the bedroom it would be the perfect place to stay...

A very good hostel within easy reach of most attractions.

The rooms are plain, but have everything you need and are very clean. Staff are friendly and happy to give advice on what to see and where to eat. A nice touch is the complementary drink for the bar.

Security is good - swipe card passes required for the lift, corridor entrance and rooms.

Room Tip: Book a double room in the 'pink corridors' - lots quieter

Good hostel with great location near to metro station and the famous market... walking distance to many famous places like the State Opera House so the location is really great and convenient. Service of the reception is very good as they can speak good english and can always offer useful and timely help. Free welcome drink and the all-you-can-eat breakfast at a very low price is definitely a plus to this great hostel!

It's the ideal place to stay in Vienna. Really close to the metro station, from where you can go to the city center or the zoo (the 2 main sightseeings there) , clean and only 3 Euro for breakfast. Highly reccomended for friends you just want to chill out , just ideal for those who transfer on a budjet. Overall, give a try,it's worth it !

Very well run hostel with friendly staff. The rooms are excellent- modern, clean, spacious. Quiet rooms, good quality sleep! Comfortable beds & modern, clean bathrooms which are a good size. The breakfast option is very good, much better than the standard hostel breakfasts. Kitchen is well set up if you want to cook meals. Communal areas are modern and have a nice atmosphere with good wifi connection.

Great location for eating out - located across from Nashmarkt with fantasic restraunts & quick yummy snack options. The hostel bar is fun with good atmosphere & drink specials. A must for all backpackers is a backpackers bar called Travel Shack- go there!!! It's a 5 min taxi ride from the hostel.
